·But in the end, if as you say as it's "much" cheaper than having to ship to Canada, then what's the issue?
Few reasons I have issues with this. Not all states are charged taxes for eBay purchases. WA was one of the 1st 4 that started a year ago. Several are still not paying them. If I were to meet up with a person and buy used items that he listed on CL in WA state, I dont pay tax. With eBay if I buy used item I pay tax because it is being sent to WA state. This means that tax is collected on same item every time it is sold through eBay. If I buy something form Asia that is made in Asia and it is being shipped from Asia, I am still being charged WA tax. For some items there would be duty if I was a retailer and buying for resale, I get that, but they would be peanuts for items that I buy, and much less than WA state tax.
Because of this, my eBay purchases have actually gone down a lot since tax came in, as those deals arent anywhere as good as they used to be. And my comment above on shipping being much cheaper was just about shipping. Most sellers charge a lot more to ship to Canada than US. For US, a lot of times shipping is included in the price, while to ship to Canada, if they want to do that at all, costs more than item itself at time ($3 item has $7 shipping for one item as an example)
