I think it is a very fine watch. In addition to the wise advice to leave the dial as it is, I would also encourage you to instruct any watchmaker to use only non-abrasive methods to clean the case, and to not polish the case at all, unless any internal rust removal is needed. You have some very fine, sharp angles on the lugs, and you want to retain those. Here is a particularly fine “Pontife” style Omega, for a price that yours will not reach due to its size and condition, but still an interesting comparison: https://www.omegaenthusiastltd.com/product-page/1945-omega-jumbo-watch-1

IMHO Based on usage and pricing and no negatives about anyone else, watchguy and mitka get my vote.

the dial is very interesting for those that like patina it will be highly attractive to some..

BUT be aware due to EU and other countries import taxes etc the market for such watches is a bit distorted, and if you invest in it with a view to selling you may be disappointed at the final return. If you like it and its a piece to wear/heirloom then I think it is a lovely piece of family heritage.

Hopefully the movement wont need much other than a good clean up and fresh lube, however, it may well require some bits and pieces.
Still it"s well worth finding out, and once done you can wear it on your father's birthday, like I do with Dad's old watch.
That's a lovely idea 😀

John, always communicate (written by mail) with the watchmaker what to do and what NOT 😉

Good afternoon all. 😀 Well, it has taken a while but here I am with an update. As mentioned earlier in this thread, I sent the watch to LWR in London. They in turn sent it to the Omega Centre in (I think) Southampton. The estimate for repair is £830.60 which, as I exist on the paltry State Pension, is way beyond my means! I may consider one of the other repair specialists suggested by you good people on here but I think it will still be out of reach for me. At least I have the watch, which is a tangible connection with my late dad.
