Having decided that the 2011 VW Golf GTi was coming to the end of being a "sensible" family option, I set out on the hunt for some sort of sensible family car.

What I ended up with was an imported (from Singapore) F01 BMW 740i M-Sport in Crbon Black/Barrrique Red with 60k miles on the clock and a full BMW service history.

It cost not much more than a new rolex submariner date in steel... approximately 1/8 of it's price when new.

With a child seat in the back it is indisputably a "sensible family car".

The less said about the £1800 it cost to fix the air suspension, the better.

I didn’t know they drove on the wrong side of the road in Singapore as well.

Another Sony 1120 amp, a very Hifi amp. Somewhat rare in the states, cost was like 400.00 in 1968. I love the look of Sony from 1960s -1970s I also have the wood case and optional (nos) headphone adapter.

I finally got back to my 1998 discovery project, right now working on fixing the sunroof, need to get a couple of pieces cnc, aluminum or delrin. Also repairing the brake issue. Which will include brake delete. The leak was a bad proportioning valve, impossible to see it leak.

Nice. I can't believe how well you did - here in the states, just one air shock will cost that much, un-installed. DAMHIK.

Actually got this a week ago but forgot about this thread. Korg Krome Music station. Synthesizer/sequencer so that I am truly a one man band.

Ignore the other keyboard, it's just a piano, now on craigslist...

Yes, that's a home made music stand on the wall. Craftsmanship at it's finest.

If I'd gone to BMW, the compressor, struts and install would have been north of £7k

As it was, I bought a WABCO OEM compressor, manifold, valves and relay from the manufacturer in Germany, and a pair of ARNOTT "airbags" (which on this car are closer to being a strut that wraps around the actual strut) which are Continental OEM "airbags" in drag... because Continental aren't allowed to sell you the whole bag/strut assembly for "reasons".

Parts came to £800, and my mechanic charged me £600 in labour (a full day) = £1400

I say £1800 of cost, because I bought a "german" compressor from a German supplier, which turned out to be a repackaged Chineese compressor and was both terrible quality and faulty. They have refunded me what it cost but are refusing to refund the £400 I paid across customs fees and installation.

The silver lining of having that noisy piece of garbage on the car, was that you could hear the compressor running all the time (not so with the OEM Wabco), which highlighted an air leak, and lead to the replacement of the bags.

I should have been suspicious when a genuine BMW compressor with a production data of November 2022 was burned out by July 2024!

All in all, I think I've done ok so far... a 10 year old BMW that originally cost £80k+ is probably a bad idea for most, but doing a max of 6k miles a year, I think it will work out for us. And it's fricking lovely.

Maybe I'm watching too much YouTube but feet health has gotten to me. Anyone wearing wide toe box shoes and thinner soles?

Bought these on Amazon for cheap. Feels good.

Just a little something to make sure it's spinning at the correct speed...yep it does have to be adjusted after thirty-six years of spinning

I'll say it straight out, I dont like BMW's but I'd try or consider a decent Z3 or Z4
The new Supra is a z4 with just the one supercharger. That says a lot

Nice pick up! 44k! That looks super clean

Road trip?
Having it shipped.

Lots of these out there with low miles. Seems like about 1 every other week on bat. Can’t go wrong at that price. These are basically e46’s mechanically and this year had the 3.0 out of the e90 so cheap parts and good on the reliability side.

Yeah, my wife bought me the ones that are all over IG.
A lot better than I thought they'd be, light and pretty comfy, but we will see if they last 6 months. I did replace those very thin insoles with my standard ones for my f'd up feet. Potential to be good travel shoes, very light and the cloth upper makes them super easy to pack. Wore em all day at a conference, standing for 8hrs with no issues.

You run the risk of looking like a Cabbage Patch doll, but wide toe shoes are very comfortable. Keen makes dependably wide-toe shoes at a high quality. I do most of my workouts barefoot, good for a lot of reasons.
