They make their own pickups. Wanted it as custom as possible.
Here is their original pickup winder, now decommissioned. It has one hell of a story behind it.

At today's car boot sale, a 10eur army jacket (m64 satin300 from 1971). Well made and heavy as bricks, of course it is 300g per square meter! It was retired in the 80s, too heavy to wear in the summer.
This one has been custom tailored (shortened at the waist), not unusual since lots of combat personnel found it a bit too long to use with modern belts and holsters.
Back then the French army had their clothing made locally. A quick tumble in the washing machine and it will look great paired with a bright colored Lacoste polo shirt. 😎

A tester, wasn’t really looking but found this one for a song. Rough looking, but after some deoxit 5. Lights up fine, will check, stuff out. Then trying to bring the case back to life.

If you are active and over 30 you need one of these: a Theragun. It is a percussive massager. They are not cheap (this model is $300 usd), but so worth it. I am in my mid 40s but still play soccer with college kids. Works great for sore and/or pulled muscles.

Edit: I forgot to add that you will need to remove your watch before using. It is a bit like a jackhammer.

I have heard from several people about the theragun and how great it is. Haven’t tried it but my wife has and was very impressed

If you are the kind of person who appreciates an intense deep tissue massage, this is for you. It is indeed more than 5 times better than a $60 massager.

I strained my back in a soccer game Weds night and one of the other players said "I have got a Theragun, want to try it?" It loosened me up enough to finish the game, which was probably a mistake. I could barely walk the next day, so I bought a Theragun for myself. It is now Saturday morning (2.5 days later) and I feel almost fully recovered. A combination of Theragun and ice several times a day did it. Normally, I am not quick to recover.

Something along the lines

I wonder if it will be friends with me?

And the rest, after a sudden wet thud, was silence.

I bought a cheap Chinese Violin today for the Kids to learn on (4 and 11) years old but really I mostly bought it for me as I have always wanted to try the Violin and its a 4/4 so I am guessing it will be a while before the rug rats are bigger enough to use it any way.

I know that cheap Chinese Violins have a reputation for being appalling crap, though that seems to be changing with Chinese factories improving the product but like all engineers I am a tinkerer and have done a lot of research as to what it takes to make a Violin sing on song so half the enjoyment will be the fettling of it.

What a nice machine, is it specific just to pickups ? To me it looks like a transformer winding machine which I am very familiar with as I still wind custom transformers for my own product and for other customers.
Would love to hear the story behind this one, winding machines are very rare these days and even in days gone by were rarely seen.

a Theragun…

I’m a fan too, both the wife and I are runners and I suffer with tight calf muscles, her the glutes. A couple of minutes with a massage gun is so much easier than foam rolling with the added bonus of occasional use on the neck, back etc when you get those random knots.

Ahoy.

You're absolutely correct, it has been repurposed, and it is still used for the purists who want their pickups done the old fashioned way. As to the story, probably best kept to an 'oral tradition' however waaaaay back then, when in need of a winder , a someone noticed GE made telephone handsets down the road .... cue shenanigans.
