The blemishes could easily be on the crystal… and there is no way to know unless the crystal is removed.
I’ve seen dial variations on many different watch manufacturers that were not listed in a catalog, so it’s almost impossible to say. This could even be a test dial or prototype for the UG design department, but there is no way of knowing… and trying to pick a side is kind of pointless.
Regardless of whether it is original or repainted, the dial and watch are beautiful and I’d be happy to wear it!

I absolutely enjoy the information and discussions on the forum, but I don’t necessarily like it when everybody picks apart watches that are not 100% factory original and perfect examples…

Hi Mark- that response was not intended for your chronograph… It was a response for an earlier post in which guys were picking apart a watch and speculating about the originality of a dial, while being viewed from a photograph and through an old crystal. Obviously not the ideal conditions to make a judgment on dial originality…

Ok. And about which post was this?

General answer: I sincerely don't think is about picking (in a negative way). The UG forum is mainly visited by people who have a keen interest in the brand and are always looking for answers in an endless search for the truth. UG is a brand of which large parts of history are poorly documented (at best) and this combined with a wild variation of dials makes it a rough ride sometimes....

The fact that it is a 14K gold case implies that is likely to have been cased in the USA. It was a pretty normal thing to do back in those days. Because of high imposed import taxes on luxury goods between countries, big watch makers would get around restriction and tax liability by shipping base movements to local case makers, who would build them using their watch cases.
