An uncommon Constellation

Dear all,

I’m new to watch-collecting, and I'm new to this forum. Thanks for accepting me!

I started to collect Omega one year ago, because I inherited a De Ville from my late father. I have now 5 of them (see pic), to fit each outfit ;-)

I just bought an uncommon Constellation.

To my knowledge, it’s a 1956 De Luxe OT 2853, with the « Arrow » dial.

I need to bring it to my watch repair to get it opened, to know which movement is in and to ask Omega for the history of the watch with the serial number – but I cannot wait to know more.

The watch is in solid gold (stamps, weight) and runs very well. However:
- the crown is probably not original
- it does not display ‘Constellation’ on the dial, on top of the star
- the words « officially certified » are written in italics, with a font that looks like the « globemaster » one.

Someone (on Facebook) said that some US models did not have the « Constellation » writing.
Another one said that the dial is repainted – but it looks very neat. Also, why would someone decide to change the font and to remove the « constellation » writing?

My guess is that it’s maybe a prototype. If you have any information, I would be very thankful!

Best,

Olivier

Eagles head hallmarks indicate a French case.

Thanks ;-) I own a XKR 2003 Coupé. People who love Jaguar apparently love Omega as well...

I think the dial is what's know as a "pipedream" rather than a "prototype"

A 2853 Deluxe would have a solid gold case and a solid gold dial and the case would also have the 2853 reference number in the back. Yours is a French cased Constellation, possibly the French equivalent of a 2648 if it has a bumper 352 or 354, or with a 501 or 505 it would be the French equivalent of something like a 2852

No, it's just a poor redial unfortunately

Whenever someone says it’s a poor redial I always examine it and consider if I could do better. Using the walrus artistic skills to judge redials 99.9% of them are pretty damn good, even the sharpie pen ones.

I'd put my money on prototype too but I'd not put too much money

I agree!

In fact, I like the watch - even if it's a Franken or redial -, it works very well, I don't intend to sell it and it was cheap... So, I'm just curious about what it is!

This is mine, named Dinah! She has doubts about the watch, and considers my money would have been better spent if I had bought kibble...

I'm sorry to talk cars in an Omega forum... (I like cars and I draw cars! I bought the watch by selling a drawing...).

The XJR is just stunning: best four doors ever, in my view. Congrats!
What is the hotrod? Is that a V12?

The hotrod is my Jaguar mechanics personal car, is powered by an electronically fuel injected Jaguar V12.

That's very impressive! A very nice one! It reminds me great videos of Van Halen and ZZ Top from the 1990s!
