Hi all. As a newbie to Omega what is peoples opinions on this watch, link below. What is peculiar to this model when looking at a used one. Are there differences in a factory dial and service ones. Is there a good site that deals with them? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Omega-Se...016004?hash=item3b46a0d584:g:lJcAAOSwieheubEBPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Seller is a SM300 Aficionado and well regarded member here. Expect this watch to be fully and precisely disclosed. What it is.
Hi thanks. I'm not looking to buy it, just asking what do they suffer from, things to look out for, the service items etc.
Why would someone who is a member here list on eBay before trying to sell on OF? Seems odd to list on eBay first and have them take a significant cut when an honest example could most likely sell here. Always thought of eBay as the route to take if a watch doesn’t sell here.
Well on ebay you get thousands of people in one place, more than here. You get free listing. You can also get a £1 selling fee offer. If you have the money bank transferred there is no significant cut, just £1.
Whoever gets that deal is one lucky person because like most people here I’ve sold on eBay and on every transaction I’ve forked over 10% to them...
They occasionally have promotional deals where they waive the final value fee. You have to keep your eyes open for them in the eBay app (or maybe email).
I think that £5000 is fairly expensive for a watch with case and bezel condition like this one. If it can't sell on eBay, I'll guarantee it won't sell here.
Hi ConElPueblo, whats a more realistic price for the ebay one? I prefer the big triangle SM300 from 66/67, what are they worth aswell? Thanks Mark.
I haven't followed market prices on these as I am not really in to expensive Omegas, but for £5K I'd expect either a flat-link bracelet included or a much better case condition. There are a lot of old Seamaster 300s, so data points that will help you figuring out what they trade for should be easily accessible, both on OF and on eBay as well as other platforms.
Here is a chart from omegaseamaster300.com with estimates for head-only examples: To me, £5K seems pretty fair for this example - while the bezel has some wear on it and @ConElPueblo notes some polishing on the case, it still looks like a "correct" example with the right bezel, correct hands, no relume, and an extract of the archives. The seller properly notes in the description the crown is a service replacement, but that doesn't bother me.
The watch appears to be legit and the dial and hands are quite attractive. No reason not to buy it at the right price as a wearer. But as indicated in the listing, this is a well-worn watch and there are some condition issues that detract from its appeal as a collectible piece. The bezel has at least two significant cracks. The case shows a lot of wear and polishing IMO. Looking at the sides of the lugs, the original finish is mostly gone and the edge between facets is smoothed over. There is a mature collectible market for these, so prices drop precipitously as one goes from top-notch to mediocre examples.
Hi all. Thanks for the replies. As I said I'm not going to but it, but I do like this model so wanted experienced peoples input on things to look out for. The link provided on SM300's was good also thank you . I also found a similar one myself here: http://thatwatchandmore.blogspot.com/2013/03/buying-vintage-omega-seamaster-300.html
