An impulse -69

After a major breakup things can get a little dicey: impulse purchases are guaranteed.
I had set up email alerts for when Speedy's are listed on eBay last year, and that added fuel to the fire.
So I get a notification, view the listing (with terrible photos), send a few offers, and within 20 minutes nearly spend my entire watch collection at once.
Stupid? Yes.
The package arrives at the border and I head over, already planning to send it back.
I open it up, and... it's not great, but it's not bad?
I look under a loupe: some lume loss, polished case, small mark on the minute subdial, hands are worse than I thought. I definitely overpaid (just under 5K after duties). If this was 6 months ago, I would have been boxing it back up.
I shrug it off, "it's good enough", and take it home.

Perfection is the enemy of the good, and after a 4 year hiatus, I am part of the club again 😀

I think it looks good, and price ok including duties. Movement shot? SN?
Enjoy it

Not bad at all! And if you have only one, this is a perfect piece to wear the hell out of! Enjoy and wear it in good health!

No movement shot but I did get the SN from the eBay authentication. It seems correct and it's running at near 0s/day, but yeah an unknown until I send it to my watchmaker.

It looks pretty darn good to these eyes. Bezel, crystal, case back and dial (even with that small mark) look great! Nice score from the exterior view. Hopefully the movement is in good shape!

@pitbos @SOG53 thank you! Hopefully not a rust bucket. 😗
Maybe should buy one of those case openers from speedmaster101 in the mean time.

The fellow who makes these is an OF member @Pahawi
Try messaging him they are reasonably priced and there’s a long list of other watches it works for too.

Just sent him a message.
I used to work at a watch shop during uni and I have lost count the number of casebacks I have scratched during battery changes (thankfully only MK, DW, and other fashion watches).
This will be nice for a change.

edit: And bought 😀 thank you!

Congrats, beautiful watch in great looking condition. Price seems very reasonable. I know it’s not DO90 bezel but for some reason I have always liked the early DN90 bezels with the tall “TACHYMETRE.”

Haha I would prefer a DON but not because of how it looks. I think I've been conditioned to like it because it's more rare/valuable. 😒

Looks like a beauty!

And yes I second picking up the caseback tool above...very well-built and handy to have.

Excited to get it haha.
I am a bit worried about the dust cover removal though, a post by Archer warned about a few things (namely the movement isn't screwed into the case).
Oh well. 😗

I also have a -69. It was a replacement for the first watch I ever purchased when overseas in the military in the late 60s. I like yours too! 👍
