Great collection. 😉
That said, if you buy what you like getting into the research stuff, you might also be a compulsive shopper. 😀
But do spend time researching (whether before or after a purchase). It will enhance your love and appreciation for your collection. Though it will also exacerbate your collecting/shopping impulses. Hopefully, even if heightend by research, it will now be more focused.
I have laid my heart out. Let us know what you wear!! What you love?? & what you desire.
I liked this but what about the what about the n+3 (or 4 or 5) ? Definite collector?
I suppose so, but that formula is somewhat imprecise. At any given moment a collector is at least one short of the number of watches they wish to own. A collector is, therefore, always at n+1. Once they are no longer at n+1, ie they have as many watches as they want, they cease to be a collector and are simply an owner of n watches.
You will regret selling the perfect travel and out door activity watch. Not having an SKX or similar is not something I could live without.
Wow you sound like the most grounded person I’ve ever me. I absolutely love the globemaster annual calender. Unfortunately after the Ploprof purchase I will find it difficult to spend another £4.5k ish for a while. Personally, I will never ever have sufficient funds to own the timepieces that I currently desire? But that is MY problem as a poor (impatient) guy in a rich guys world. Unfortunately I am impatient & can’t save for ANYTHING. I take my hat off to the REAL collectors who sacrifice, save & ensure that They get exactly what they want. I am massively jealous of their knowledge & discipline.
I guess my priorities force me to make decisions about what I purchase. I totally understand the “I want it now” feeling. When I got into collecting in the past it was very easy to be seduced by seeing other people’s collection and hearing them talk about it. Social media really exasperates those desires because you see photo after photo of people posting beautiful pieces and it’s very easy to develop that “I must have it” feeling. It’s fine if you can responsibly fund your hobby (and all the hidden costs involved), but it becomes a problem when you start compromising important things in your life to feed the collectors desires. I was toying with the idea recently of getting a Speedmaster reduced or MK40, and I believe that purchase would have driven me down the collectors path. I ended up dropping the idea because I put the service costs into perspective and the fact that I’ve come to be fine with not needing more. There are many watches I’d love to own, such as a Grand Seiko Snowflake, but I don’t feel like I can responsibly own more, so I don’t.
I too love the Globemaster annual calendar. A bit too large for my wrist at 41mm, but a really stunning piece. Very nice collection you have there, btw. The Proplof is such a cool and interesting watch.
Katana, the shop I purchased had a GM Annual Calendar at a great mark down price, it was beautiful.
If I had the spare funds I would have purchased that as well even though I prefer the blue, but the saving beat the colour.
Also, I rot leather straps, I think I perspire some kind of acid.

That’s a good point. I’ve not fully considered sellers remorse on this one. My conundrum is that every time I try to wear the SKX I end up taking it off before I even get out the door because I just want to wear the Globemaster. There are a few occasions through the year where I wouldn’t wear the Globemaster, but then I think perhaps I just need a really cheap beater watch like a $10 Casio. Yet for some reason I haven’t brought myself to sell the SKX... not sure if deep down it’s because I want to keep it or if I’m just too lazy to go through the pain of eBay or Chrono24 to sell it. Even though it’s not even half the price of the service cost of the Omega, I just have a hard time having it sit in the drawer not doing anything... but perhaps like you imply, there maybe a time when I’ll need it, so I guess I’m holding out for that.
They stopped making them last year. Honestly I think the more beat up an SKX is the more beautiful it is. I’d also take it off the bracelet buy some cheap natos and have fun in casual situations with it.
