Here are more photos. I took the band off to gently clean it with a dry toothpick and Q-tip. I don’t know if it should get wet at all and I’m afraid to chance it. I’m sure that it resists water having survived all of these years!

Good photos, but I would absolutely not assume that water resistance is something you won't need to worry about. Every passing minute makes the watch more vulnerable to moisture and is the top reason to make investing in a service a priority. The crystal and the gasket in the caseback need to be checked and possibly replaced, and the crown bushing may be another problem area. I'd say it's not worth it to try cleaning it.

Would having the back opened for the serial number tell me exactly what I have?
It would certainly help. The tools and the skill needed to open that kind of watchback are not generally available around the house, so—well, you know what I'm going to say. Local independent watchmaker.

It’s cool how happy you are it kind of emanates from your post. It is nice to come across something I think even more so when it’s something you will enjoy yourself. A lot of flippers tear the places up looking to get every dime they can out of a watch. That’s fine people gotta live and eat but when you find something “for you” it has more meaning, to me at least. And yes I have flipped a couple things but only gold watches as I’m not really into precious metal on watches. Do you have a watch maker nearby you should get, if you so choose, a service on that watch, then you won’t have to worry about it for a while. You could have them open it and take a picture of all the info inside.
It’s so difficult! I love it and want to custom make a leather band for it. Knowing it’s value is tempting to let it go through. I think that I’ll hold onto it. The value will grow and I’ll enjoy the heck out of it.

Great find!!! I wouldn't wind it anymore. I'd get it serviced and either replace the crystal, or see if it can be polished. I'd bet my pension that it hasn't been serviced since I was skinny and had dark hair. You will risk wear and possibly parts damage if you continue to wind it, the oils probably dried up when Truman was President.

I agree 100% that this watch deserves a proper service. Parts for these bumper automatics aren't super easy to come by, so preserving them with proper cleaning and lubrication is better than replacing them. @AnitaVarney this is a fine watch in surprisingly good condition. The case looks to be in pretty good condition and the dial has an even and pleasing patina. It looks to me that the crystal is too far gone to really come back well with a polish. I would have it replaced with new a genuine Omega crystal. I wouldn't have the case polished because you would lose the crisp edges and a shiny case would not go well with the aged dial. Finding a strap will be fun. Check out this thread for some inspiration:

You also mentioned making a strap, some nice work displayed in this thread:

Some of us could successfully preserve that crystal. 😉

In the second set of photos it looks like there are cracks in the crystal to, but I could easily be wrong.

Agree. There are shrinkage cracks in the crystal meaning that it should be replaced. Water resistance is definitely comprised.

I appreciate everyone’s feedback. It’s keeping perfect time, which is pleasing! I cleaned the band up to wear it around today and see if I really want to keep it. I agree now that it’s definitely patina; but looks nice!

Love it and then shut it down!
You are running your engine on old oil.

So awesome! You guys are such a great group! I’m falling in love with Omega. This one is nice, but it’s not the Constellation, that I hope to one day have. In all honesty, I think that I’m most excited about finding it and it being an Omega like my great uncles. It feels like kismet.
