Perhaps the OP is saying that after a certain reference sells for a high price at auction, many poor examples (with replacement parts and over-polished cases) come out of the woodwork and appear on eBay.

Of course, this reference has been very desirable for a long time now.

Wish I could just get the bracelet. Brutal service dial on that one.

The seller says it’s in “museum conditions”. Who doesn’t believes an eBay seller nowadays? :)

It's not tritium for one thing. There are many more subtle differences as well, including the "El Primero" font, the printing of the tachy scale, etc.

The easiest tell is the "o" in "El Primero"

Re: Service dial tell(s): Script of 'el primero' in service dials is much more pronounced, compare two and it's obvious; 2) compare the "C" in TACHYMETRE on both, different shaped "C"

I’m not up on the A386 or other chronos but what is wrong with a service dial?

Nothing 'wrong' per se, but for collectors it is something that you would a) Want to know and b) Understand it affects the value of the watch

Nothing wrong with service dial. Though a huge chunk of the value in the collectors eyes is in the dial. A service dial can be bought for cheap enough, an original one much tougher to find and will for considerable moolah
