Hello

Am considering buying this Gmt 6542

The dealer has admitted that the bezel is aftermarket (I think I can live with that), but says the rest is original. please take a look and feed back your thoughts- would really appreciate any help

Thanks

I don't believe the seller.
The dial is T<25. This serial should have SWISS only at the
bottom of the dial. Early service dial at best. I stopped looking after I saw that.
A IV 57 caseback is a bit early for this serial #. Should be II 58 or III58 I think.
Hands are not original.
Here is a 397,xxx serial I have in my database from E Ku to compare.
Below is 397,xxx serial from Dowling. Both "High" crown, SWISS only
The things to watch on the 6542 are the crown placement and shape.
Also the font alignments.

Pictures are terrible and you gave no serial number
or movement caseback pictures.
What do you want to know about it

The serial no. is written on the piece of paper.

In terms of pictures this is all they gave me.

what am trying to find out is the quality of the watch- does it have clear signs of having parts replaced. Basically trying to find out that apart from a nice bezel is this watch worth buying.
Thanks

Instead of paying telephone book numbers for a 6542, why not look for a mint 1675? Much easier to find in good shape than a 6542 most days of the week

He already has one and has it listed FS in the sales forum.

If you are thinking of spending 6542 money for a watch I think that you need to do a lot more research or start working with a different level of dealers. Way too many issues to risk the big bucks, IMO. Good luck with the search.

I agree, cannot be sure of this watch. Too many unknowns. Have found a gmt 1675 with chapter ring and pcg's that I love (grail for me)- have asked for advise on another thread and seems much more positive and dealer is hugely .
respected.

would love to hear your opinion.

Thanks
