Advice on Seamaster Vintage

Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy my first luxury watch so I'm quite new to the watch game. Some time ago I asked for advice on a "Constellation" listing (see my previous post) that turned out to be, quotes from commenters: "a real mongrel of a watch", a "horror that I should run away from, screaming" 😅. This made me even more aware that my eye for authenticity is still very limited, but I'm learning 😀

I now have my eye on this Seamaster 30 model from Marktplaats (Dutch eBay) that I really like the looks of, and I would like to have your advice on this piece.

  • Reference: 125.003-62 (model seems to check out)
  • Waffle dial
  • Serial number: 20500??? (not entirely visible on picture), which would date it in 1963?
  • Calibre: 269
  • Year: 1962 or 1963?
  • Price listed: €1.300,- ($1.514). Since it's an eBay-like website I could bargain maybe a few hundred euros with the right arguments
  • It has an Omega buckle, crown and original plexiglass according to the seller
  • Seller bought it from a jeweller two years ago and the watch was checked shortly before that time, but he could not provide me any verification/proof of that

My questions are:

- The watch hands have lume but the dial doesn't say 'T Swiss Made T'. I can't really tell if the dial stripes have lumes. Somewehere on this forum I read that the 'T's' came around in the end of 1963 /start of 1964 and this watch is supposed to be from 1962/1963, so that would explain it. Is someone able to confirm/clarify on this matter?

- Is the difference in reference year (1962) and serial number (1963) cause for concern?

- Are there (other) factors that cause concern in regard to the originality/genuineness?

- Is the price okay?

Thanks!!

T denotes tritium. This is radium so obviously no T’s.
Seems a nice watch but it’s not a €1300 watch

Looks like a nice watch overall. For me the price is crazy, but that's up to you.

The watch looks nice, but the price doesn't. In my opinion it's priced at almost double of what it's worth. A few of this reference have sold in this forum for a lot less.

Scout the sale section and you'll eventually find a watch you like at a decent price. No point in rushing.

Definitely a clean example, and in great shape. But even in that condition, not worth near that price. I’d suggest reading the learn how to fish thread to understand what to look for.

I’ve been looking for one too. Can’t comment on price as I am new to it. I do love the handset on that one - probably my favorite of the variations.
