Advice on a strap for a Heuer

Hi all. I got this Heuer 1614 recently that looks like a strap destroyer. The spacing within the lugs is very small and the sharp case tends to rub on the strap. I'm thinking that a thin strap and curved spring bars may do, but first time having this problem so not too sure.

Now, before I order a new strap and risk damaging that one too, any advice?

My submariner actually has this problem if a strap is thicker than 2mm. Look at straps designed for the sub with curved bars (it is a thing) and they may get you where you need to be.

Is the case even curved between the lugs? If not, a curved strap will look funny. I think maybe something thinner might help.

Good point. It looked like it was in one photo. If it’s not, the. i withdraw my suggestion.

@southtexas @Dan S It's actually a straight case between the lugs. A curved strap would look real funny.

@JwRosenthal good to know. I'll check submariner straps to get an idea.
Good eyes Dan, I was just looking at the distance between lugs and cured case back.
With a strait case, cured will look funny. There are some companies that make slim straps. Try to keep the thickness at or just under
2mm and use thin spring bars- you may clear it then.

I've got a similar problem on a lot of my vintage watches - tight lug spacing.

The only viable solution was getting custom straps while specifying a very thin strap around the lug area. Clearly, not every straomaker can/will do this, but I was successful in finding one.

@Braindrain I think that's a plan. As slim as possible and 1.5mm spring bars. Not sure if curved spring bars will help in this case.

@Vercingetorix I'm old school. Will file that sh1t.
