Has anyone gone the exhibition back route on theirs?

I like seeing the movement... but maybe not that much.

Traditionally, some Speedmaster owners installed a "Thomas Preik Speedmaster Professional display back" on their Ω321s in order to see the movement. There is also a comparable display back for Ω861/1861 movements. The owners who installed these display casebacks seem to like them.

With the reissue of the 321s by Omega, I wonder if it may be possible to order genuine display casebacks directly from Omega that would work with vintage 321s. The platinum caseback obviously would be quite pricey (and a different metal than the stainless steel case of a vintage Ω321), but the stainless steel caseback from the Ed White reissue may work, with the added benefit of being a genuine OEM part. While the cases themselves are different between the stainless steel Ed White and the platinum Professional, I suspect the casebacks themselves are the same size and thread pattern. Note that both of the casebacks are of the "two-step" geometry, so representative of the 105.003 and early 105.012 through the -65 variant. With the 105.012-66 onward adopting the "single step" caseback geometry that we're familiar with through today.

Personally, I prefer the original stainless steel caseback - one, it is original to the watch. And more importantly, the original steel caseback allows for the installation of the anti-magnetic cover, and protects the Ω321 movement from magnetism to its original specification, as-designed.

True!

inwas wondering about that new case back myself. I also prefer to leave it “stock” and just stare at the front.

good to know the options though!

It does not. I suspect many of us still have that reaction. These are beautiful movements.

You did a very nice job all the way through!

My first 321 was also a 145.012-67. At that time, I didn’t think I’d wind up with over two dozen 321/320 watches.

They’re like potato chips, you can’t have just one.
Hahaha I know now what you mean. And that is a beautiful watch in the picture, absolutely flawless!! If it's a sickness, the only prescription is to get more watches!
