Thanks!
Seems like This one gets a lot of mixed feelings…Partially relumed or not, original bezel, original crown…Many questions raised :/

The bezel insert and crown are absolutely correct original parts for this watch. For these second gen (PTX) Super Kontikis, crowns were push-pull and can be found signed or unsigned, both correct. I own three PTX examples - one is signed, two are not, and I'm 100% confident they are all completely original watches based on their provenance.

At the very tail end of the second gen run, there are some examples with a screw-down crown but those are outliers.

OP, if you can get inside the watch, you should see PTX-3 engraved in the caseback. That is the correct designation for this countdown bezel insert.

The only issue I see with the watch is the bit of lume touch-up previously pointed out. The 9 does look a little dicey. Hard to tell in the photos if the hands have also been relumed or touched up.

Otherwise I'd say this is a very nice condition original Super Kontiki.

Actually after re-looking, I'm not entirely convinced that anything on the dial has been relumed. It may just be the photo making that 9 look a bit odd. Would help to see additional photos.

Finally! And I would say that even without bracelet 3500€ is a good price.

Hey! Thanks, I’ll definitely go see it on saturday (it’s a 45mn drive)
About the lume, I guess I’ll bring my uv lamp with me!
Here is the first picture I got of this watch, quite far but the lume color seems pretty consistent

And it seems to have a very sharp case too!

Beautiful Kontikis! I've admired them on Instagram.

Agreed on the price. For a well-preserved second gen Super Kontiki, 3500€ is a reasonable price now, though I would try to haggle the guy down.

OP, good idea about the UV light. Based on that more recent photo, the lume appears to be original to me. Those cut-out numerals are very difficult to re-lume properly, and lume can shift over time based on heat and other factors. The UV light should reveal the truth.

Or flake off and leave bald patches- my Speedmaster can attest to that 😒

Haha, yes, I'd love to see a 50-year time lapse for how this actually happens, but lume seems to be able to mutate in many different ways. Pretty shocking really how well preserved it often stays considering the length of time and that it was/is radioactive.

What I find most mysterious is when lume is missing from a hand/dial and I'm reasonably sure the watch hasn't been opened in god knows how long, and yet there is almost no trace of the missing lume inside the watch. I would expect to see more chunks of broken off lume. I'm sure we've all see the UV star patterns across dials from lume that has turned to dust.

Spoke to the seller, he seems to stay firm on pricing… :/
I’ll go see it with my timegrapher on top of the uv light! 😁
How good are the movements in those?

Well it's still a fair price. The movements are rock-solid. Extremely hardy and parts readily available. They were in-house Eterna movements - it will have a 1424UD inside - but Eterna was responsible for ETA (ETernA), so they share the same DNA.

Edit to add: One thing to take note of with regard to pricing: is the dial still glossy black? If so, I'd say the pricing is in line with market. It's not a good deal, but it's a fair deal.

Hi all!
Well, after a 45mn drive, I went to see it this morning…And left with it! 😁
It looked much better in person, the god of bad pictures smiled upon me!
The inner caseback has no trace of servicing, lots of wrist cheese, very sharp case lines, original signed crystal…I don’t think it’s ever been touched (it’s directly from the 1st owner’s heirs)
Dial is perfectly glossy and original lume untouched (uv test showed no inconsistencies)
The crystal was very scratched but here is what it looks like after some hand polishing :

Very well done. The case looks really sharp and the reference in the caseback is consistent with the bezel type. Congrats!
