Hi All - I’m a complete Newbie to OF and vintage watches generally but have been doing a lot of reading about (and looking for) for a 50’s/60’s Seamaster with a sub-second dial, as I love the look. I’ve seen this example on eBay and wondered whether anyone could give any thoughts on originality and condition? I’m worried about Frankens and buying from eBay generally so any help much appreciated. Thank you!

OMEGA Seamaster Automatic. Steel case. ca. 1950. Subs. seconds 100 % original.

It looks nice and pretty original to my eye. The dial has bubbled which isnt to everyone's taste but the movement looks clean. Your link is broken, I found the listing and must say it is a little pricey at €850 but it is a nice one and 2576s aren't as common as the centre second 2577. I would question when it was last serviced, he says it runs perfectly but then they all say that. If it does need work then the price becomes €1K plus which is just too much.

+1 that the price is too high, rest of it is up to your own taste.

That being said, these seem to have increased in price, I remember not too long ago one (in very nice shape, admittedly) selling for ~1400USD or so here in the classifieds. I find that absurd, especially for the 34mm ones, but there you go. Only saying this since it might mean the price isn't too far off (for a market like eBay. It's still a ~500€-watch in my book).

I like it a lot and, whilst the price is on the high-side, I don't think it is massively overpriced in the current market. The movement looks very clean so possibly it has been serviced recently but would ask first as others have said.
Other than that it is whether you like it and consider it good value that matters.
Anyway welcome to the forum and good luck with the hunt

you can always message the seller, ask about the service, depending on the answer offer a bit lower than the buy it now. Never hurts to make an offer.

a 50’s/60’s Seamaster with a sub-second dial
I like these a lot and I’m missing a sub second from my meager collection. The only thing I’d mention, if you haven’t tried in a watch from this era just be prepared for it to be on the smaller side. The watch above will likely wear big with the beefy lugs but the dial itself is probably the size of a US quarter.

I wouldn't pay more than €300 or €400 for that watch in that kind of cosmetic condition. If it was the same watch in excellent shape I can see it around the asking price of €850 but the case and dial are both in poor shape IMO
