I have these ballistic nylon zippered cases.
I've gone a similar route, but using the red omega service cases. Putting the watches in padded baggies, I'm able to fit at least 3 watches inside--requires a bit of extra prepping if the watches have bracelets.

I bought two from curiosupply.com, the owner is a member on this site. They are leather and hand stitched. They were the nicest ones I found when I was looking.
I bought two from curiosupply.com as well. Really nice product! The leather smells great! So great that it can function as a close-quarters odor masker...like when our youngest teen (he's a serious fart monger) farts in close proximity...just jam the curiosupply.com watch roll on your snot locker when you hear the flatulence or catch a whiff...and you don't smell the air biscuits! 👍

I don't have enough watches to require a travel case, but how about a canvas watch roll?
Here are a few examples:

http://shop.hodinkee.com/products/waxed-canvas-roll
https://shop.wornandwound.com/products/watch-roll-waxed-tan
I have the wornandwound two-watch and four-watch rolls. I like them both. The combination is just about right for my core collection and the two allow flexibility in the number I might travel with. I am less enamored of the cord wrap of the four-watch version compared with the leather of the two. But they both work. Cheers

Traveling with a Wolf two watch case this week...

This looks great and affordable. When enclosed, if you shake the thing around, do the watches bang around a little or is it a very snug fit?

Thanks for the recommendation

No it's pretty snug as those cushion bits keep them in place well... $17.50

I have the discommon and Bulang case. Love them both for different reasons.
They both look so awesome! Mind sharing the different reasons?

The discommon adds the best protection, I think it may be bullet proof 😀 But it really only holds 2 watches and is bigger than the one from Bulang and Sons. The case from Bulang is very small, I love it for carrying a few watches...but prefer the Discommon when traveling farther away and need better protection.

I use two types of carrying cases

For local GTGs, where the watches don't do much travelling and consequently need less padding, I use these watch rolls from Etsy. Well-priced, and they look great. Very happy with mine.

They may be able to custom-make one with alternating pockets since they have something akin to what you're looking for:

For travelling overseas, where I need much more robust padding, I use an Oakley Watch Vault, cos I only bring 2 watches when I travel - one on my wrist, the other in the Oakley.

For those that have canvas watch rolls, is there any possibility or risk of the canvas scratching the watch?

I looked at a few, and it depends on how the roll is constructed.

Bought one of the les noble items in the end: https://www.lesnoble.com/products/watch-roll-handmade-high-quality

Canvas, with suede lining inside the pockets where the watch heads go.

Thanks for the link - that one seems like a good value!

It seems like unlined canvas pockets could possibly scratch the watch crystal?

For example, this one from Hodinkee is unlined (and overpriced) -

This one is actually a tool roll, but has been recommended for watches and again is unlined
