Here is a link to a website that shows when serial numbers were produced
http://chronomaddox.com/omega_serial_numbers.html

Unfortunately it isn’t an exact science, but it’s something to use.

You can get an extract of the archives, which gives an exact date of production. But that takes time and costs $, so you can’t do that for each watch you are thinking about buying.

Also, have a look at WatchRecon.com
You can search for omega 1970. That shows watches where the seller claims it is from 1970

You can tell with a Seiko to the month, and that’s what I got for my brother’s 50th. A nice collectible dive watch. 👍

Longines also provides free extracts from the archive if you send them photos. Usually takes just a few days.

It would be important to know which particular model you are intending to buy?

If it's your brother, just lie to the b******, do your best and be happy, if it's Omega, he will probably not be able to question.

I'm not a speedy guy but if there is a 145.022-70! with NASA stuff on the back, OMG!!

You added that CO2 or whatever thing to your post after I had already liked it, I swear... 😜

I’m hoping to get him a vintage sea master
