Hi guys, I was about to adjust the time on my smp 300 cal 8800 now 20 min before midnight. I acceadently adjusted the date. Is my movement fucked up now?
Even then, I never saw a watch break from this, certainly not an omega. Maybe it's possible, but I've yet to see if.
I would advise that people should read the manual that came with their watches, and adhere to the warnings that talk about when to avoid changing the date using the quick set. Although you may have never seen a watch break from doing this, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Some watches are more prone to damage than others, and it's very specific to the design details, but damage from changing the date at the wrong time can and does happen, and not just on "crappy" movements... The date finger on this 7750 based watch was snapped off by someone using the quick change - the finger that is missing at the red arrow should be the same as the one for the day that is still intact: Cheers, Al
Hi al, Is that common to the v7750 in general, or just the variant you showed here? Just curious. Truth be told, doubt I ever changed the date in a 7750 near midnight.
It applies to 7750 based watches in general, although there are exceptions. That's why you need to read and adhere to the recommendations in the manual.
I've had this happen before -- had it fixed by my local watchmaker, no problems after and wasn't expensive. Also have a 7750-based Longines, without a date on the dial, whose invisible date wheel changes over rather noisily at 9:50 PM every night. Its a characterful movement.
