Adding a date feature? Really?

You are speaking as an individual who is a watch aficionado, a tiny slice of humanity. Most people wear a watch to tell the time, and they want it to look good. They aren't interested in the mechanics making it show the time, and they don't want to interface with it in their daily lives. No puzzle at all.

You are probably correct, although I was referring to our sub-group of humanity - the watch collectors who prefer automatics to hand-winding.

Ew er, that's me 馃榾, my first watches as a young lad were manual wind though my older brother got a very nice gold plated late 60's ( well it was the late 60's or maybe early 70's) Seiko automatic as a comming of age deal and I was always envious of that, which then translated to today where I always want autos in preference.
That's not to say that I don't get the occasional manual wind of course but it has to be very special.

lets take this even further, and add a second date window at 9 that shows the mirror/reversed image of the date

Kind of getting behind the idea of just leaning into mayhem
I think you need to patent the 2 date complication, which shows the date in other time zones.

Am I the only one who doesn鈥檛 even like the dial? The date placement/appearance is just an additional nail in the coffin鈥ot the final nail, an additional nail.

Same for me, couldn鈥檛 care date or no date or manual/automatic think it looks like a footy jersey gone wrong

I work 12hr hour shifts at night, 7p-7a sequentially three days in a row. I do a lot of charting so I use my date function frequently particularly by the third 12 hour shift of the week.

The obvious fix would to make the 9 o'clock equal in size and maintaining symmetry.

My obvious fix would be date at 6 on a black disk and black numbers.

PS. I don't like the case shape, the weird dial numbers or the hands with "aged lume".

But AP will sell shitloads of them because you can clearly see the name on the dial.

This model is not new, it's 10-15 years old and no longer in production. It was never a big seller. People didn't buy this watch for the name on the dial, if having AP on the dial was important they would be buying a Royal Oak.

Agree that watch looks ugly with the date window, but would look amazing without. I wish all watches would be offered with and without a date as an option - I mean, Rolex has done that for years with the Sub and it has been pretty successful.

And don鈥檛 get me started with dates at the 4 o鈥檆lock position (or 4:30). Uggh!

I did that for six plus years. Same schedule Friday, Saturday, Sunday (so ending Monday AM. It came to an abrupt end when a coworker messed up some machinery leaving me injured. I had to crawl back to my old field of work. Let me for-warn you if you have to rejoin the 8a-4p workforce I don鈥檛 think you ever fully adjust again and your watch becomes more important. There is a lot to be said about getting it all over quickly.

I agree, a black date wheel would have been a better choice.

Though I could have done without the date, the one on my Sinn 556i has a black wheel, and is unobtrusive enough for me. The 4:30 placement solution on the 556a model was out of necessity in order to keep the 3 indicator. I did like that the date is displayed level there, and not cocked to the right. But it would look much better with no date in my opinion.

If you have to put a date on this type of watch, just stick it at the bottom; it鈥檚 not like there鈥檚 a six there anyway.
