Very good prices. I have similar to your 2. on a 1960s dog-leg Connie. I don’t know if ‘correct’ but I wish I’d paid $65 for mine! 👍

what would be the appropriate buckle for this Seamaster Cosmic? I am still pretty new to the vintage scene so still trying to learn on how you would determine this. I have looked on ebay to try and get one but realized I have no idea what to get

Hello everyone!

I am looking for a bucke for my Seamaster 34mm from the late 50's. I came across this one but even after having read most of this thread, I am not sure if the size (16mm) and the buckle itself match the watch and period.....

I would really welcome a little help.

Thank you!

Can you show photo of watch? Lug width most likely 18 mm so 18 mm taper to 16 mm at buckle is common size so 16 mm would be correct.
Buckle is original and would be appropriate and good looking for watch of that era. Buckle prob from 60s but close enough imo

I think more likely dates to 60s do you have movement serial number and inside Caseback photo?
I think the buckle you found would be great for this watch

I collect the large medallion (19mm width) Seamasters. I am 99.999% sure you have a reference 2975 with an interesting aged dial and I might say a nice canvas strap choice which matches the dial! If I were a betting man, I would bet that the serial number on the movement falls very close to 1958-59.

From research that I have done these references were produced for a very short period of time around 1958-59. (There are several other references which have the large medallion back, but the 2975 is the most common. Interesting side note…I have found later versions of the same reference 2975, even with the same dial/hands which have the smaller 14mm medallion.)

I encourage you to check the serial number of your movement, but just a heads up, these case backs are not easily snapped back on if you do not have a case back/crystal press. I do not own this tool so I have to take mine to the watchmaker for help such as checking movement serial numbers, etc…

Just want to say that I have really loved and benefitted from this thread over the years. Helped me track down some true (enough) to original buckles for an old Constellation and Seamaster that belonged to my late grandfather. Thanks everyone who’s contributed!

Thank you! Model CK2975 Production 18th November 1958 and sold new in Norway.

Price of the buckle is about USD115, is it ok/acceptable for this specific buckle?

I’m not sure about matching period buckles to same period watches, but lean towards the thinking of SOG53, who believes the buckle might be later. Wish I could be more helpful.

This photo is copied from the original buckle thread started by @omegastar, and shows the evolution of the MG maker buckles, oldest from left. The buckle you are asking about is the "Old style" MG, note the flat feet on Omega logo- which is identified with earlier Omega watches which had the older style flat foot logo on the crown, and on the center of the crystal- these were from 1950's and early 60's- so this buckle style is consistent with your Seamaster from 1958.
There is no way to accurately date the buckles, the best information is from catalogues and advertisements showing buckles with specific watch references but this is hit or miss, the buckles are not organized in catalogues. Sometimes "complete sets" for sale can help, but nowadays these are often assembled and may not be exactly how they were originally sold.
I feel that the buckle you show is appropriate age and style for your watch, and is original and very attractive. Price is reasonable IMO I would go for it and you can play around with straps see what you like, thats the fun part.
Other opinions welcome I am not the buckle maven but just a student of this thread on OF and school of hard knocks with some purchased fakes along the way!!!

HI Guys!

These two buckles ( 16 mm) came together with a Speedy 105.012-66 recently.
One should be period correct, and the other a bit later??
