A trio of vintage Omega Speedmasters

As we start our second week of isolation (following my daughter catching the dreaded virus), I thought I'd share a few pics of some the watches I've been lucky to accumulate in recent years.

First up, a small collection of three vintage Omega Speedmasters. No prizes, but I'm sure folk here will be able to put them in date order:

First up, is the 105.003-64 'Ed White':

Whilst there may be an opportunity to buy the recent new edition of this watch from Omega, I think I prefer the vintage one. What do you think?

Second, from 1967, a transitional 145.012-67:

And, finally, from my birth year (and my first vintage Speedmaster), a 145.022-69:

I've enjoyed learning about these Speedmasters over the last six years or so. A lot of that information has come from members here and I'm very grateful to you. I've also enjoyed the Speedmaster 101 book (last year's Christmas present from the Mrs); and, of course, there are great websites online including the definitive https://speedmaster101.com.

When I began collecting watches I never anticipated being able to own watches such as these. They are all long term keepers. I've enjoyed educating my two sons (less success with my three daughters!) about these watches and their history.

Finally, a couple of wrist shots of two of the watches that I enjoy wearing occasionally:

Agreed, and why I have not joined the list.

Beautiful trio, I regret selling my Ed White a few years back. Now it is impossible for me to buy one. Can you imagine I had a hard time selling it priced at about 3000 euro? 馃榿

Btw, I got the bracelet for your 105.003 -64, wear it on my Seamaster 120 and pretend it is one of its bigger brothers (speedy or seamaster 300) 馃槈

I've got the 1035 bracelet here (but not the right end links), plus one of the Forstner straps too, I just haven't got around to putting either on the watch!

A lovely trio you have there @jpjsavage 馃グ

As a newbie to watches and OF I've noticed you have collected a number of fine pieces, I'm sure it's one heck of a story over a beer or three on how you obtained them, their history and what they mean to you.

Edit: Cherish and wear them in good health sir, especially in the current climate while I hope you and yours stay well and your daughter recovers quickly.

Thank you. Yes, it has been an interesting journey. If you are ever around the Cheshire region I'd be happy to partake in a beer or two and chat watches!

I have to say, if I had an Ed white like that then I鈥檇 likely have little interest in the new one. You have some lovely pieces.

Wish you and your family health and your daughter a rapid recovery.

No prizes??? A wonderful trio of watches and an Ed White which will leave many here heavily salivating. No Omega collector would prefer the new Ed White to a vintage, especially one in the condition that you currently own. Beautiful.

Also, is there a book titled "Speedmaster 101" or are you referring to the book titled, "Moonwatch Only"? Thanks...

Thanks for your best wishes. She has made a quick and full recovery thankfully. She is a very fit and healthy 13 year old and we are just hoping she has not passed it on to anyone else in the house! In respect of the book, Moonwatch Only is the right one! Sorry about that.

Hello there! thank you for presenting us your superb collection! Ever thought of collecting other models than Speedys or are you only interested in them?

I wish you and your family all the best and hopefully your daughter will be well again soon.

I'm very lucky to have a small collection of other watches. Daily wear is a 16610 submariner or blue dialled Skydweller. Also just bought my first vintage Rolex - a 6239 Daytona (from the same buyer I bought my Ed White from):

Okay, on to the important question: has the Speedmaster itch been scratched, or will there be more?

At the moment, it is scratched. Although I'm hoping for the chance to purchase the new Snoopy edition from my local AD (perhaps next spring seems likely?). This would be a nice addition to the two 50th anniversary models that I was able to acquire last year. However, my plans have a habit of changing. I was planning on a nice new Patek purchase this year (an end-game watch for me) but these plans were scrapped when the 6239 came along. I don't think I'll be buying anymore vintage Speedmasters but who knows what is around the corner!
