A serious challenger to the Rolex Explorer

I am a great admirer of the Rolex 1960s to 1970s editions of the Explorers now selling around £6000-£10000 but looking at the Omega 1953 RAF issue Broad arrow low issue pilot watches selling under £3000 I think there is a massive amount of potential improvement in prices for the latter!

Hmm.. okay.

Not really in the same league.. one being issued the other being with the Explorer being widely available.

I do agree the fat arrow is an amazing watch and plenty of them trade above 3k these days.

As much as I love the styling of the Explorer, I think the Omega is a more intersting watch, and not similar enough to the Explorer to really compare them- apples to oranges in this case.

Now if we are going to compare Explorer look-alikes, I'll throw the Wyler 660 HD into the ring anyday.

Considering I would need to hit the lotto to justify getting a 1060 Explorer, this will scratch the itch for me for now.

Ok wondering off the subject a little I did acquire this odd SM 300 from early 60s for £180 in 2005 as a wreck but looking better but not totally PC correct.
Nevertheless not worth more than perhaps £4000?

36mm steel case, 200m WR, massively shockproof, antimagnetic properties. A third of the price of a decent Railmaster.

Now you just need to find one 😁

Looks like the wrong dial and hands? Interesting though.

Yes it had history of being smashed In Early 1960s during a street fight from first owner then rebuilt again and sold on from a jewel shop.
Nevertheless incorrect it has period parts and history it’s up there and in My opinion say £3k if on the market with STS service so not really bothered about the value for now!

Knew you would drop in with this. I'll keep my Ranchero away from this raucous thread.

And an option for those who won't be climbing mountains, diving, or exposing their watches to 1000 gauss anytime soon...

My submission is in line with @ConElPueblo - and if it’s a lowest price contest I will likely win 😁

However I bought it as a substitute railmaster, not explorer...

Not to derail OP's thread, but can you cough up the reference for this DS? 😉

Sure, it's a 5601 114.

Anyway, one doesn't need an amagnetic to have a Explorer challenger - any DS will do just fine in comparison.

That’s a great strap. What is it?

Thank you, it wears very comfortably.

Ritche SS Mesh. I bought for $10 off Amazon a few years ago. Seems to be UNAVAILABLE now.
