..I have been collecting since about 1985 .... then a break due to a burglary and then back at it in 92....

uff! a seven-year sentence, ugh? 😜

....but I can't say that I am a 'collector' I just buy watches that I like to wear...

this would make two of us! 😉

How long have I been collecting watches?

Over 5ft.

Seriously though..my first nice watch was a lovely longines quartz given to me at 12 yrs of age...I had no interest in mechnical watches until I became friends with someone at my son's local school...May 2013 I purchased my first mechanical watch, a 42mm Breitling Superocean Heritage.

Currently at eleven. Breitling, Omega, Rolex and JLC.

Since about 2003. But had been given many watches by family members before that, and interest was there as far back as I can remember. Funny when you start to think about the collector brain as a whole - where does that come from? I’m always glad I have it (as long as it never bankrupts me...!)

I've been hooked since my dad bought me my first Westclox Scotty pocket watch when I was in the second grade, I wanted my great Granddad's Illinois and settled for the Scotty. My first nice watch was a 17 jewel Waltham Colonial I picked up at a antique store when I was fifteen.

i started 2012, with omega cal 1040 variations, skipped the vintage speedmasters as they was loads of them everywhere and i thought they all looked alike, until i 2016 understood there was a lot of difference in them ( and also a bit difference in price from when i started😀)

Pocket variety for 20-25 or so years, mostly Hamilton due to my great-Uncle's 992B. (And he was a Great Uncle)

Then a few Hamilton wrist watches joined the fun followed quickly by a Seamaster ref 2869-1 cal 500 with an Omega BOR bracelet/sliding clasp.

A sharp decline into madness ensued, circa 2013-14 when I lurked then joined OF.

Hello, my name is Tex......

😁
Is the lug width on the Seamaster 19mm? If so, what end links did you have to use? Or have the end links been modified? Trying to put the same bracelet on my 2869...and trying to modify the end links has turned into quite the project

Brought home a nice watch in 2017, but didn't start 'collecting' until 2019. Still managing to keep it relatively under control.

I inherited a few nice pieces in my twenties and thirties. I followed up by buying two new watches, an Omega and a Rolex (in that order!), when I turned fifty. I've bought a couple of others since then, and I'm always saving for the next one.

When I acquired my first Accutron in 1964, I didn’t think of myself as a collector. In 1972, I won a Rolex Air-King Date in a Rolex sales contest. In 1976, I acquired my Rolex Prince Observatory duo-dial “doctor’s” watch (from circa 1930). Since then, my collecting has been like a snow ball rolling down hill. Growing bigger, and faster. Now to the point I am slowly divesting myself of a few watches.

almost 19 mm lug, (18mm a bit short)
no endlink numbers on mine

What you see was how I received it in 2013-14, I have not modified anything.

The first watch was a Reverso around 1998, purchased on a whim because I though it was such a brilliant mechanism and design.

That was the beginning of my fascination and led to many other brands before I truly discovered the richness and variety of Omega.

As I continue along the path of the hobby I'm really drawn more and more to the earlier pieces that don't seem to be terribly popular, and that's fine with me.

Latest pick up.

Bought my first Omega in 2018, so it has been pretty much 1 year since i've been fascinated by the watches. Although i have been wearing watches since i was 10, i never really was so occupied with them.

I wouldn't call myself a collector but I have bought and sold some over the years. I bought my latest Omega to wear.

My wife treated me to a Tag Aquaracer in Heathrow airport on our way to a holiday. That was on 11/11/11 and when we came out of the shop we had the two minutes silence in the airport.....at 11.00!

My next major watch purchase was just prior to my 60th birthday in 2017. As I was born in 1957 I chose a Speedmaster ‘57. A SMPc the following year plus a G-Shock for work and a Christopher Ward C5 slimline manual wind dress watch completes my collection. Apart from the Tag, I’m a relative newbie compare to many of you on here!
