·Hello,
After a complicated period during which only 4 prototypes were made, and 500 personalised movements were ordered and paid for at Kenissi, the project now finally has a chance of going all the way.
"AfterSome of you may have followed Ultramarine's adventure, its highs (the creation of the Morse from nothing to a rather nice piece, the signatures with Kenissi and Sea Shepherd France, etc.), its lows (the Eterna crash for the launch of the Albatros during the Covid period, the Sea Shepherd France crash, personal problems, mistakes too), the least we can say is that it hasn't been a smooth ride. Such is life.
Let me put it plainly, Ultramarine is launching a Kickstarter today because we can't do without it. We need (I say we because I'm not the only one in the venture, some have put in their marbles, and their caps) money to pay for the production of the 500 watches, which is all that comes around the movement.
Let's talk about the movement! 😀 It's a Kenissi Manufacture 5402, a chronometer calibre with a 70-hour power reserve. 500 are paid for, COSCed, and ready to be cased.
The packaging is, I think, pretty good: a 316L steel case with alternating finishes, crown protector and screw-down crown, all water-resistant to 300 metres (tested at +20%), a steel or optional domed sapphire bezel, a splendid engraved screw-down caseback, a sunray dial and applied hour-markers.
The Beluga will come (if...) with a choice of an FKM rubber strap, a leather strap, or a steel bracelet with H-shaped links and an optional fine adjustment buckle.
he price on Kickstarter, a very good deal for all that, amha: - 40% for the first 150 buyers, 1440 HT, that is to say 1728 € TTC in the EU, and 1557 € TTC in our happy Swiss neighbours (with a soft VAT), for the Beluga models 1100/1200/1300 with steel bezel :
There are options available such as the domed sapphire bezel (+€100 excluding VAT, -33%) to upgrade to Beluga 1111/1212/1311, the steel bracelet (€200 excluding VAT, -33%) and a few others that you can discover.
]VAT to be paid later, separately.
The target is high but it's imperative. There's no doubt that it's far from won, especially as the brand doesn't have the resources to communicate as it should, but the watch is beautiful, with very good features, at a great price, so there's a chance. We'll do the maths in a month's time.
For those unfamiliar with Kickstarter, it's all or nothing. If you place an order, you'll be debited in 30 days if the target is reached. If the goal is not reached, you pay nothing.
If the target is reached, I'll pay the money straight back to Roventa-Henex, who are in charge of production (and have already made the plans, then the prototypes), and who have announced a nine-month lead time for production. If we finish in mid-January, we can expect the watches in October, but I'd prefer to announce November as a precaution.
