Four days into the new year and something turns up that just can't be passed up. I knew these existed and that they were rare but was not actively looking for one however I get a message last night with a bunch of photos, the obligatory response of "how much?" was given and this morning it is mine.

Watch is amazing and a little more interesting that I have purchased here in Vietnam.

At first I was slightly crestfallen as the watch would run and then stop after a while, little shake and it would be off again. Not the end of the world as it will get a service shortly anyway, but it is always nice to be able to wear them for a bit and have the joy of watching things go round how they should. With nothing to lose I thought I would just pop the back off and have a peek just in case it was something dumb. Dumb it was, someone had not fitted the case back seal properly and it was not in its track therefore stopping the winding rotor from turning freely.
The seal was distorted and would not fit properly so I have taken it out and will get a new one at service.

All happy now, runs like a charm:D

No more talk, the pics (won't be seen on the NATO for long, canvas straps on order)..

It is 36mm and the reference is 7005-8030. Lots of info on the net about them and they are getting relatively scarce now.
    Cheers.

Nice one - FWIW, there's a thread about MACV SOG Seikos over on ((106) The Case of the Vietnam "SOG" Seiko - 6119-8100/6119-8101 | The Watch Site) and Fratello also covered a 6619 on #TBT Seiko 6619-8060 MACV-SOG - A Sterile Watch (fratellowatches.com), commenting that the 7005 was only made for a short time (hence the rarity).

Wow, the mythical Seiko 7005-8030 MACV-SOG watch. Those are rare, very very hard to find one. Congratulations.

Hi @ewand, thank you. I had seen the Fratello article as I read it when I got my 6619-8280. I knew of the existence of The Watch Site thread but had never read in its entirety. Fixed that now and very interesting.

I never set out to collect Vietnam War or American War (as they refer to it here) watches but one thing lead to another and here we are.

    The 6619-8280 and 7005-8030 together..

Where the accidental collection stands today:)

It is hard to gauge a going rate as they rarely come up and I suspect a number change hands without hitting the web.
The last one sold that I saw went for $1,200 USD but that was a year or two ago and I am sure some have been sold since.

    Cheers

Nice! An olive drab nylon RAF style strap with a nylon keeper is the most historically accurate strap from what I know

Very cool. I’ve been looking for a MACV SOG Seiko for a while but they are definitely rare and people want silly prices for them.
