A lifetimes work

I'm sorry for the enigmative heading but it sort of explains the situation I joined the forum a few years ago probably relating to the same issue. I'm 73 now so the memory gets a bit shakey. anyway I am looking for some advise from people with expertise, I think my best chance of success is here on the forum.

Back in the early 1970s I reached my 21st birthday and was rewarded with a gold Omega Seamaster DeVille. About 2 years later I was in a very serious motor cycle accident. I arrived home from 2 weeks in hospital - without the watch.

Fast forward 40 years and I decided it was time to replace it with an Omega as close as possible as I could find with the original. Eventually I bough a Seamaster Quartz, with date, from around the same period.

The point of this post is that this watch is fitted with the 1337 movement which according to our local watchmender nearly bankrupted Omega back in the day. He was involved because the setting mechanism stopped working. He did manage to fix it but not for long.

I am wondering If I am wasting my time (and money) with this watch and should look for an alternative, or whether it really is repairable.

I will be very grateful for any and all suggestions and comments.

I’d bin the quartz and look for a nice gold gap 166.020

I think you could check ebay for a donator movement and then let your watchmaker handle the assembly.

Not sure about the quartz. Yes it may be an Omega, but it doesn't seem to me like a good replacement for your DeVille. My opinion of course.

We could help you roughly identify the model you had, and you can choose to pursue it or not. Was it bought new in the early 70s? It had a date only or day date? Was it plated, capped or solid gold? Remember something else from that watch?

Sorry to hear about your motorcycle accident and the loss of your original gold Omega Seamaster DeVille. It must have been quite a sentimental timepiece for you.
