Hey all-

Finally ended up buying that house, and well, it needs a new HVAC system. Turns out that stuff aint cheap.

As such, some of these expensive chunks of metal and fine swiss engineering need to go. One of them is a 5512 I bought from the illustrious @Spacefruit some years ago. But, time keeps on ticking and I honestly have no idea about a value range. So I thought I would kick it to the OF experts and see what they thought. I'll leave the photos without comment here (courtesy of William). Curious to hear everyone's thoughts:

Can you confirm the serial, I'm not sure I'm reading it correctly. Is it 514xxx, or is there a "1" preceding the "5"? I assume the latter, but I'm just having a hard time seeing the "1".

And the spotting is on the dial, right? Cool watch either way.

514944 serial is ok for an early 5512, don’t know all the dial and bezel variations for these - were produced for a long run, but glossy gilt would be right. The case is pretty clearly been refinished, probably more than once by the look of it. Pointed crown crown guards - could you show from the side please?

If that’s the serial then the dial should be chapter ring. I too can’t make it out.

With a tritium dial?

I was not commenting on the dial - except gilt/gloss would be correct. I don’t pretend to know a lot on these, Wasn’t tritium used in that period though? And I don’t see a 1 in the serial, but it is admittedly not a great photo.

Typically you will see T<25 starting around 900k IIRC. Approximately.

@ATWG probably remembers better.

You guys are fast: serial is 1514xxx
The dial is a match then!

Assuming the lume is original, I’d say $17K-$19Kish. Hopefully, that’s in range with your expectations.

So if you bought it years ago....Wouldn’t now photos be more reasonable than old photos to expect a valuation.

Yes indeed. However that would assume something has changed, and honestly the watch is in, to my eye, identical condition. Happy to provide additional photos, but I am not nearly the photographer William is (nor do I have the equipment).

A corect PCG 5512 with 4 liner gilt open railway dial in this condition will be around US$ 20 k. For actual trends search H.Q. Milton and Jacek at Tropicalwatch. Sell maybe at the vintage Rolex Forum and eBay as well.... Good luck ! Kind regards. Achim

I know it's a pain, but you might consider replacing the crystal. It's going to be really hard to get decent photos.

No worries, it’s a beautiful watch I’m sure it will go fast.
