A couple of Omegas gifted from my Dad

Hey all, first post here.

I was visiting my Dad recently, he's been quite ill and needed my help. Not looking good for the old man, and that's another story, but it's clearly why he pulled me into his office, and said "Hey, pick out a couple you like". He had like 8 Omegas and a Rolex, I'd no idea! Of course I didn't know anything about Omegas either, but gladly took a couple which caught my eye. He'd always had this silver (steel I guess) Omega from the 60s when he was in the Navy, so I recognized the brand. Thought they were pretty cool, but had no idea the value until I brought them into the local Omega dealer to get a new band on the one with the white dial. Not cheap, and took some time for me to come around and decide it was worth putting an authentic Omega band on it, but I'm glad I did it, I think it looks great. He had some very wide leather band on it that looked fairly odd. Also have the leather (original) band on order to dress it down a bit. I'm not that into gold, but had grabbed the sliver/gold one because it was different.

I would love to maybe eventually trade the gold one for a Speedmaster of some kind, those seem more my speed in terms of how they look.

Anyway, the rabbit hole here seems deep! 😁 Lots to learn about these guys. The Omega store ID'd the silver/white one, and I think I've ID'd the black/gold one. Hope y'all like 'em. I sure do.

I'm new as well, but wow are those in great condition, and generous gifts. Hope you get some good time in with your pops.

Unsolicited advice but something learned from bitter life experience: an Omega Speedmaster can be bought new (or preowned) any day, any year—there are millions of them out there. ‘Watches from Dad’ are irreplaceable. Once you’ve traded one away, it’s not likely you’ll ever see it again. I deeply deeply regret trading away the watch my dad left me—I wish I still had it and could leave it to my son.

Not making any assumptions about you and your family/relationships, of course. But if any of what I’ve written even gives you a tinge of hesitation, I’d listen to that voice.

I appreciate the advice! Things are great with my dad and I, no worries there. But I dig the one with the white face, so I'm happy with that memory of my dad. Not sure I'll wear the other one much. But I'll keep it for a while and give it some thought. Thank you again!

@Annapolis is 💯% correct. Absolutely keep them both. You’ll get your Speedmaster someday!
Hmmmm, maybe. Kinda doubt I'd shell out for a watch when I have 2 already. I hear what y'all are saying, but I think I'm likely at some point to try and get some value out of the black/gold one. If it's not valuable, I'll hang onto it.
