DorsetOmega
·Pardon the pretentious title, but I wanted to share with you my recently acquired Seamaster Calendar. I’m struck by the way that the dial has acquired a lovely, even patina so that in certain lights it has grown to blend in with the gold hands.
I love coloured dials, as long as nature or Omega intended them to be that way! As someone who grew up collecting coins, patina fascinates me too. I’d love to know the science behind why sometimes it ‘spots’ and sometimes it forms a more regular pattern.
It’s a 2757-4, cal 355 ‘bumper’, 14xxxxxx dating it from around 1954 to 1956.
The dial may be one of the less common variants, based on an unscientific Google search.
I’ve seen another 2757-4 on the forum with a mixture of thin arrow heads and Arabic numerals, and a 2757-6 (with thicker markers rather than numerals on the quarters). Both of these watches had lume, whereas mine does not, and both had a printed rather than applied ‘Omega’.
The closest to the dial markers I have found was on this one: https://watchcharts.com/listing/832...rler-dial-ref-2757-2-cal-355-bumper-automatic but again the ‘Omega’ was printed.
I’d be really interested to see any similar pieces, or indeed similar effects with patina.
I’ve mentioned him already in the sellers’ forum, but this is also an opportunity to say that @MtV, from whom I bought the watch, is the nicest guy you could hope to meet.
