Hey everybody,

After spending hours reading stuff and exchanging ideas on the forum, I've finally got my first Omega ever. It's a lovely steel case Seamaster De Ville. More beautiful pics will follow soon but I just couldn't help sharing some right after purchasing.

I'm aware that the watch has inevitably some flaws (which will hopefully be corrected following a comprehensive service soon) but this whole process taught me that there is no such thing as "perfect vintage watch". From servicing to maintenance, every vintage purchase is to some extent actually a project. Anyway, it has been a long journey so I just want to step back and appreciate the Omega quality rather than bumming myself out of minor issues 😀

I love this forum and everyone in this forum. It's just amazing to see how such a sharing and supporting community can also gather (probably) the largest pool of know-how on aesthetical and engineering marvels. I really hope that I will have the means to keep up with my Omega enthusiasm and also maintain my father's memory & legacy, whom we sadly lost some months ago. He was a watch enthusiast himself among his other interests and was also looking for an Omega to present me as a gift before his passing. May he rest in peace.

I appreciate once again everyone's contribution to my knowledge and understanding of these beautiful watches. Now I'm leaving the floor to the pics:

I don't see flaws in that watch, just vintage beauty. Enjoy and sorry for your recent loss.

Congratulations on your watch and your desire to honor your father's legacy. I too lost my father this year, and he, like your father, was a watch enthusiast. I am still trying to find his, I believe, 1960s Omega Constellation which is located somewhere in his house... I hope.

Thanks @janice&fred @Marsimaxam and @onlyomega94 for your beautiful comments on the watch and sharing my grief.

Always good to start off with a classic!

My deepest condolences for your loss. I wish I never knew what losing his father meant to a son but I do and I do share your sorrow.

What a coincidence! I've always thought that my father also had an Omega watch but this was a mere thought until my uncle told me the story of how his watch dealer called my dad one afternoon to inform him about the availability of a vintage Omega with all its original box etc and how they just jumped in my uncle's car to go & get it... The watch stayed in its box on my dad's -quite messy- study desk for a while, until my parents moved from their old apartment. Still couldn't find that particular piece despite finding more than 60 watches...

Such a beautiful quote, can't help deeply agreeing mot-à-mot!

Congratulations. Great example of how to purchase a vintage watch by getting the proper information and knowledge before buying. I see too often the opposite.

I echo your thanks to the forum and the forum members' expressions of condolences concerning the passing of your father.

Thank you for your thoughts.

I was extremely close to my father and fortunately I lived just 17 miles away for the majority of my life. We spoke every day and saw each other every week. An acquaintance of mine who really didn't know my father offered a wonderful statement to me in a letter he wrote and I hope it will extend to you as well...

“I didn't know your father, but what I pictured was a man whose soul was content and who was happy, and as a result, despite all you had going on, brought a peaceful ray of light to your world. I will always picture this man as good natured, suave, and comforting his son through his positivity even if he didn't know he was doing it... you are loved, and if there is something beyond this world.... he is looking down on you with a happiness I hope to know one day but for now I can only imagine”

Hey everybody, sorry to bump this thread up after weeks but I've been terribly busy with less meaningful stuff than watches, you know, like my job 😁 @Tet @Kek25 @LesXL you're all amazing, thank you for your kind and encouraging words! Can't stop feeling emotional after reading the latest comments...

@Marsimaxam , your lovely quotes are strangely very relevant to me, my father and our special bond... Just another proof of how the time, these little timepieces and this forum can connect many hearts to each other. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing this. I am sorry for your loss. While my father passed many years ago I still think of him every time I acquire a new piece. He used to give me a new Timex Ironman triathalon on Fathers Day every year until I was about 14, wish I still had one of them. But that’s what got me into watches and I never was able to truly thank him for the introduction. Enjoy your new watch in good health and good memories!

Very similar stories, thank you so much for sharing these. It's both heart warming and hard to grow up and go back into such memories. May your father rest in piece, my friend.
