I would love to see a GMT in a 42mm (or smaller) case, but we will see. I do think that is a big hole in Omega's lineup. I do own the world timer, but it's still not a GMT!

Yeah, I’ve just done the clasp mod on my speedy-style bracelet. I’m happy with the result, but I needed to round-out the base edges of the clasp (the bit that goes next to the skin on the sides), as it was quite sharp and pinched when I moved my wrist. Is yours the same?
No I find the clasp comfortable

there does seem to be a hole in the line up. The thinner cases stuff hasn’t been Omega’s focus for a while, and they regularly spit out unwearable pieces. I can’t imagine that they are ignorant of the murmurings of Hoi Palloi like us, but it seems odd that they still pump out the thicker cases stuff in spite of strong protest from Omega wearers.

Well I finally did the bezel insert mod. Would have been quicker if I bought the right tool for the job straight away rather than try the home brew option and then the cheap option. The right tool took two seconds. Looks like a completely different watch and I love the adjustable clasp I fitted as well. I've really enjoyed my little journey so far with this watch and I see it being a lifelong companion whilst I see my Submariner as a means to an end.

Good to know the tool works well. Where did you get it from and is there a trick to using it?

I’d prefer an all black bezel, myself. Someone on one of the forums has installed a PO style insert, which I think is a massive improvement to the watch. He said he had to glue down that insert too, but I think he also had to thin out the bottom with a dremel.

I just ordered a black ceramic one with lumed numbers as another option to put in.

What was disappointing about it? Thickness ? Style?

To be honest, it’s one of the worst watches I have ever owned! The first issue, the blue dial and bezel, we can ignore (as many people like blue dials). However, the short GMT hand is practically useless because it does not extend to any lume plots (so its not readable in the dark). In addition, the submariner bezel on a GMT watch means that you lose the ability to tell a third time zone or tell the time quickly if you skip a time zone for a few hours (as in crossing a time zone in North America or Europe for a meeting or short trip).

Additionally, the case and crystal are not as pleasant as the earlier GMT - likely to make space for the thicker movement with the addition of the Daniel’s escarpment. However, it jostled about on the wrist a lot and was difficult to get comfortable.

On top of all of that, I had the movement regulated twice, and by the third time it was still out by about 7spd - I couldn’t seem to get the watch to run in COSC, regardless of Omega’s servicing.

I also didn’t really like the ‘Bond’ bracelet, as I don’t like bracelets without a taper. The thing was comfortable enough (especially after I put on the later style clasp), but it looked wrong and overpowered the watch head imho. The earlier ‘Blake era’ 50th Anniversary comes with a Speedy-style bracelet which is a significant improvement on the Bond.

My biggest dislike, though, was the blue wavy dial. I really couldn’t get on with it. It looked wrong with every suit jacket I have (including brown, which you think would go nicely), and I really don’t like the wavy dial (I don’t like it on the Blake era watches either, but at least they spend most of their time black unless you look closely - the waves on the blue dial really pop out).

The 50th anniversary is a much nicer GMT - despite the funky bezel. It’s also lower profile, frites better, is more comfortable on the wrist. Is more functional, and has a nice crystal. If Omega had spent more time on the bezel font, then it would have been a killer. The mock-ups you see for the never-to-materialise 75th anniversary, with the PO style Arabic numbers on the bezel, are a killer aesthetic which is how it should have come in they 50th anniversary model.

Hopefully we will get an SMP300GMT this year - but I bet not, Omega are clearly not putting any time into the SMP other than to release another trite Bond-sequel piece with extremely limited functionality.

Well you really disliked it a lot! 🙁

Have owned it twice, like it a lot in my case! Had the previous version and did not liked it; we all like different things!

Haha! Absolutely! It wouldn’t do for us to all be the same! I’m glad you get a lot of enjoyment out of yours.

No, I didn’t like it at all - I bet I only had it two weeks before selling it on. I kept the 50th anniversary for about 6 months, but it went out of regulation too. When that happens I move them on because they clearly can’t keep up with my rugged lifestyle.

I now own the 226570 polar. I don’t like it as much as the 50th anniversary (mostly because of the fixed bezel), but it copes with my rough life!

The Polar is a nice watch, had the 16570 (black dial) a few years ago. I just purchased my third 2535, hopefully a keeper this time! 😀 (below on 1610/930 bracelet and on 98000210 rubber band)

Looks grand on the Speedy bracelet! I don't get the bond love, but I suppose its popular with some.
