Hi. I have the 8900.
How can I ensure that the date change will be at midnight and not at noon when using the jumping hour mechanism to set the date?
(I advanced the date in the evening but when it became midnight, the watch behaved as if it was 12 o'clock noon).

Only from my own personal experiences when advancing the date on any of the "quick change" models I've owned.
Make sure your watch is set before noon on the day that you're planning to advance the date.
However if you're planning on wearing your watch in the evening without setting it in the morning then simply set your watch to the correct time making sure that it's past noon when you set it.
Confused, so am I. Hopefully one of our more knowledgeable and well versed experts will offer a better explanation.

You turn the hour hand an extra 12 hours...

This can't be a serious question, can it?

Your watch is obviously on Australian time, you need to set it to your local time.
😉

When I set my date watches, I do a quick set day/date to the day before, then I do a slow set (time set mode) and turn the hands until the day or date changes to current day, then advance to the current time.

For example, today is Monday the fifth, so I quickset the day date to SUN/04, then in time set mode, advance the hands and when the day date clicks over, keep advancing until you hit the correct time, in my case it would be 09:52, but if you are in the afternoon, you would go all around to 12 noon and then stop at the current time.

The 8900 date change is via the quick hour stepping in the 2nd pull out position of the crown; thus it removes any guessing on the date change: right after moving the hour hand past 12, the date flips, all hours are in am time, until going past 12 again. And if you go past or unsure, just reverse back to the previous date.
The quick hour setting is a feature I truly love on the 8900 movements, comes in really handy when changing time zones or, gasp, the next time I get to fly again to Australia, and crossing the dateline

I thought that's how I did it. But as I detailed above, it didn't change at 12 so I manually went all the way around to 12 again. I'll try it again. Thanks.

The date changes every 24 hrs not 12. You need to go past the 12 hour marker 2 times.
