75th Anniversary - indecisiveness causing me anxiety!

So I went to my OB the day they received the 75th Anniversary Seamasters and ordered the Diver 300M. However I keep second-guessing myself if I should go for the Planet Ocean instead. I have picked up the phone a few times to call in the swap, but end up putting down the phone again. I'm starting to obsess..

Here's my thoughts:

The new Summer Blue motif seems a bit playful to me - not exactly what I'd consider timeless. As such, it looks more appropriate for the 300M. The PO just seems too classy to be dressed in denim.

The PO is 39.5mm and I'd prefer a 43.5 for my 7.8 inch wrist attached to my paw.

I already have a SMP 2265.80

Having another 20mm lug width lends itself to swapping bracelets/straps with my current collection.

Yet I keep wondering if I'll regret not getting the PO instead.

I can only afford one of the two at the moment and of course, it's ultimately my decision, but maybe you can point out a thing or two that will help me live with my decision on which I decide on.

I saw them today and ordered the Diver on the rubber. It’s fun and playful for the summer. Agree the others seem slightly mismatched.

For what’s it’s worth, I thought they looked quite different in person than they do in the photos.

Did you have to put a deposit down?

I agree 100%. In pictures/video, they look nothing like how they do in person. It was a pleasant surprise, except for the AT. That one was a disappointment for me.

I believe they require some degree of partial deposit but in my case, I paid in full for the bracelet version in exchange for the OB throwing in the rubber strap for free.

I had a feeling that at the least a partial deposit would be required. I know the deposits are refundable/transferable, so I was going to suggest putting a second (partial) deposit down on the PO and then when they arrive, transfer the deposit from the watch you don't like to the one you do, but you paid full already. If you are really stressing over this, you could still put a partial deposit down on the other knowing it's refundable. The OB is bound to receive a PO as well, so you can keep calling in/visiting in hopes one arrives before you Seamaster does.

Have you tried a recent PO? The current SMP is as thick as the original 42mm PO (eg model 2201.50) and around the same size in other dimensions also. The PO has gotten very fat since they introduced the 8900 movement which is much larger than the earlier 1120, 2500 or 8800 now used in the current SMP. Your 2265 is around 11-12mm thick, the current SMP is nearer 14mm but the PO more like 17mm and a bit of a boat anchor. I too would take the SMP out of those new offerings. I think you chose wisely.

Would love some pictures of the watch in question, especial on your wrist. I think the new color scheme looks great on the SMP. BTW you can remove the plate mount the previous owner put on, cleans up the front end a bit!

Sorry but this is not correct.
The Planet Ocean 75th is 14mm thick, not 17.

He was referring to the 43.5mm since I mentioned the 39.5 wears small on me.

A little perspective may ease your anxiety here, worrying about which expensive watch you should buy is a bit of a 1st world problem, indeed even amongst most of those who live in the first world, it’s a problem that would be of the lowest priority.
Just buy whichever one you do and be grateful to be in a position to do that, and enjoy wearing it.

Since your wrist is even larger than mine...
Out of all the new 75th releases, I only find the ploprof and UD interesting.

The UD absolutely beats the rest with that dial and IMO it has the best bracelet of the bunch.

The ploprof has just always interested me and I'm very surprised they brought it back. Part of me wonders if this might be the last ploprof that Omega makes.

EDIT: If forced to pick between the SMP and the PO, I'd pick the SMP because I agree the 39.5mm PO is too small.

You're right about the blue not necessarily being timeless. The nice thing about tge PO are the the color options. There're been alot of great looking options over the years (love the flash of orange.)

If you can pull off the ultradeep, that sounds perfect. You've got the wrist for it. Plus, the blue fits the UD and looks perfect for the depth rating.

The 300m is great, the PO is great. But if you want to have something unique at a GTG , the UD will be it.

39.5 is too small for me. The black ceramic 39.5 is really cool and I would've bought it but when I put it on it wore like a datejust 36 but a lot thicker making it seem even smaller somehow

And for me too. I have seen the UD, the PO and the diver in the "Flesh" and was heading towards the diver but it is very similar to the Bond anniversary watch I go recently so now heading towards the 300M.

My advice would be to STEP AWAY.
If you are not sure, dont buy anything and step away. Your situation is clearly not good.

Ah yes, first world problems - indeed an anxiety-ridden ordeal for us American capitalists...

But in all seriousness, this is my first purchase directly from an OB, so the anxiety stems from making sure it will be a forever watch I'll never trade away (as I ROFL). However I have made up my mind that I'll have a 75th Anniversary in my collection.

Thanks to everyone that chimed in. I have made peace with my decision and will stick to my original purchase of the SMP.
I went back to the OB while I was in the area a couple of days ago. Although they didn't have the PO 75th Anniversary yet, I tried on a regular 39.5mm PO and it definitely wears too small on me. The UD is by far the most visually attractive in the new lineup but it is just too much watch for my liking - too thick, both in the case height and price tag. For me, it wouldn't be practical for regular wear in the rotation, so it's not a good cost vs benefit analysis for me, at the price it commands.

So I'll stick with the fun-themed SMP from this collection and along the way, I came across a PO LMLE that I couldn't pass up. It looks much better than its summer blue counterpart by leaps and bounds. That will round out the collection quite well.

Now I have to depart with a handful of other watches (that I swore I'd never trade away) and start working on keeping myself in check...

BTW you can remove the plate mount the previous owner put on, cleans up the front end a bit!

@Fusion - what do you mean by this? I didn't catch on
[EDIT] I just got it - you are referring to my avatar! Actually, I had to put it on after being cited for no front plate (I'm in Kalifornia). Yes it ruined the look, but I'm law and order, every time! (sigh)

I went to my local OB over the weekend to check them out. I was really only interested in the 300m and the PO. First, the pics I've seen online don't come close to doing any of them justice. I already own a black 300m, so my preference will be jaded by that fact, but of the two, I preferred the PO. I've tried 39.5 POs on before (on strap) and thought they were too small. I didn't find that to be the case with this one on bracelet. The way the color is applied to the 300m seemed to me to reduce one of the seamaster's biggest draws for me, which is the way the dial reacts differently to different lighting conditions. The 75th just didn't seem as dynamic as my black one, or the PO for that matter. Also, I like the deeper blue.

I'm not sure yet if I'm a "yes," but if so, it'll be the Planet Ocean. According to the SA, (who I'm sure has no reason to exaggerate the urgency of the situation😀 ) I'll need to decide soon, as they probably won't be accepting deposits/orders for too long.

Too bad my OB didn't have the PO 75th for me to try on but I still prefer the classic look of the regular PO.

That would be very surprising if they stop taking preorders anytime soon. The line was released only a couple of weeks ago, they are not a true limited edition and they haven't even hit the stock rooms yet (at least in my neck of the woods).

I wonder if they're going to pull a Samsung move - preorders for a limited time and once they're in stock (usually about the same time as the preorders), they are available for purchase to the general public.

I could be wrong, but there's a possibility that your SA was trying to pressure you into plopping down your money

Appreciate this viewpoint, I also own a black and the way the light plays with the dial + the contrast with white indices is why I was drawn to it. I am considering the 75th, but I have to go see one. I think the powder blue indices will be a turn off for me, just too much blue overall so I’m afraid I’ll get tired of it. Black is timeless and on steel it provides even more eye catching contrast.
