this is my first time posting. I am looking at a 1966 Seamaster deville gold. the obverse is as pictured below.

I note other pictures have the word waterproof stamped but in this one its only the logo.

Also some backs seem to be plain whereas this one has little indents presumably for opening up.

lastly is a 711 calibre a standard model? I generally see reference to 5 series elsewhere?

see phots below - unfortunately I don't have pic of inside case

thanks

It does look like a 165.007 (33mm) or .008 (34mm), so the 711 caliber and screw-in caseback are correct. I've seen examples both with "Waterproof" on the back and without. Not really sure of the difference.

The "Seamaster" and "DeVille" printing on the dial look weird, but maybe it's the photo. The case is quite beat up; sharp, as in not over polished, but still beat up. The crown is not correct for the reference. I would personally pass on this, independent on the price, but wait and see what others with more experience have to say.

Taking it for granted that its 165.008, than it's supposed to have a different crown style. Smaller and with more ridges. Try a google search for that reference to get an idea. Other DeVille references like the 166.020 have a similar crown style to the watch you're showing.

The "Seamaster" and "DeVille" printing are typically the same width, which in this case they aren't. DeVille seems also a bit not uniform. But that may as well be from the photo compression and noise reduction.

If you can also share the price this watch is asking, maybe you'll get better feedback. Price is always a factor in deciding if it's worth or not.

Dial on OPs watch has been poorly and incorrectly refinished.

This is a correct 165.008, note the crown as well.

Hard pass regardless of price.
