My Prediction is that eventually the new 3861 movement becomes the standard movement in the base Moonwatches and this 50th Anniversary will be collected as "the first appearance" limited edition watch with this movement

It will be the second appearance. The gold 50th is the first 3861.

Possibly. But it took the 861 50 years until the 'first appearance' ones became really collectible, and a lot of that is actually due to the DON.

Just got back from one of the ADs in Singapore.

The sales girl told me that only 100 pieces are allocated for Singapore consumption and the waiting list for it currently is at 10.

She hinted that if I wanted to reserve an allocation, perhaps I could 1 or 2 pieces so I could get higher priority.

I was ABIT shocked to hear this.

I politely reminded her that the ST Ultraman allocation was only 2012 pieces and that sold out real fast.

This has more than 3x LE quantity produced, more expensive and now I have to buy another omega or 2 in order to cement my allocation???

No thanks.

I will if I get it - like I said, I bet I get 5.

No need to be funny about it as you have a few posts. Calm down - let’s wait and see. We have a couple of months mate....

I'm betting you won't get any discount on this watch.

Seeing that only 10% of their allocation are reserved, I don't think you need to get on a wait list! So they are nuts to ask you to buy 1 or 2 pieces to secure an allocation.

We will see. I’m sure I can sweet talk even a tiny one! I have bought quite a lot from this place and have never not got one. First time for everything I guess.....

If not, assuming I like it I’ll still buy it. I’d like to see some outside shots and maybe wrist rolls to get a better idea what it looks like soon though.

This will be flipped like any other LE. Many who buy it without seeing it in the flesh will not be 100% on it.

This is just the world we are in nowadays

Normally, the ones named after LE won't give you any discount but if it goes down to other secondary markets after a few years of its release, you will be amazed to see it plummeting by almost half.

The 50 th anniversary piece marking an historic event is worth keeping. Its going to be released in July just to coincide with the 50 anniversary of the landing on the moon. Just like the 35th anniversary Apollo 11 another historic and iconic piece costing a fraction of what people paid for some 15 years ago!

I shall - let’s see. Honestly, if I don’t like that watch in the flesh it’s irrelevant anyway!

Waitlist usually means all spots are claimed that are allocated so you have to wait for someone to change their mind. So all 100 are currently taken by other customers unless they give up a spot and then someone off the waitlist gets in.

That's at least how the terminology works for medical school when an applicant gets waitlisted (with priority order). They have to hope someone with an actual spot (allocation) changes their mind and wants something else (a different school) before the final decision date.

Please correct me if I'm wrong in that Singapore situation.

In terms of allocation numbers to the world’s markets, I understand that USA receives ~14% and Singapore receives ~100... I see it as secondary build up and hype. 6969 is not a big number on the world scale, but $10,000usd is a large number for a SS watch. Smart marketing on Omega. I still expect a “peasant” version in a higher LE number to come out. Every 5th year we have seen multiple anniversary editions. Think 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, 40th, 45th. There were platinum, gold (white and yellow), display backs, 2-tones, colors, dials, then all the way down to a stainless steel that is no different except for the caseback and box.
I think the hype train will continue. Now that 1014 gold and 6969 “2-tone” is out, I’m waiting for the peasant class version with “19690” available...with a 1861 and a “special” solid caseback. The classic Camry: tried and true, best selling model for 20-something years.

I like your line of thought but in fact I fear the $10K one is the peasant version of the 50th LE*. There is already a 18K YG one and supposedly a super duper platinum model poss with 321 to come. Omega have constantly trying to justify ramping up prices on their product for the past 5-10 years and the trend is unlikely to change. I can see their point from one POV. If they strive to provide a product on a par with or exceeding Rolex quality and utility then why should they sell it cut price?

* the possible roll out of the 3861 moment into the std steel model will offer an opportunity to make that a $5K watch and fill the gap for the peasant level watch you suggest, while still collecting more coin for Omega.
