6969 LE Apollo 11- Don’t let the size fool you.

In terms of allocation numbers to the world’s markets, I understand that USA receives ~14% and Singapore receives ~100... I see it as secondary build up and hype. 6969 is not a big number on the world scale, but $10,000usd is a large number for a SS watch. Smart marketing on Omega. I still expect a “peasant” version in a higher LE number to come out. Every 5th year we have seen multiple anniversary editions. Think 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, 40th, 45th. There were platinum, gold (white and yellow), display backs, 2-tones, colors, dials, then all the way down to a stainless steel that is no different except for the caseback and box.
I think the hype train will continue. Now that 1014 gold and 6969 “2-tone” is out, I’m waiting for the peasant class version with “19690” available...with a 1861 and a “special” solid caseback. The classic Camry: tried and true, best selling model for 20-something years.

Interesting points. The more I think about this whole situation the more I believe it almost doesn't 'matter' what people think i.e if they like it, don't mind it, actually dislike it..the fact is it's one of, if not the, most significant pieces since the original Moonwatch and that mean's to big collectors it simply HAS to be in their collection

I doubt you are going to see any 'peasant' version, that's wishful thinking, imo. Speedmaster fans have had access to a good quality watch for a very low price when compared to the general market. Even Breitling's prices are higher. Omega has long ago amortized case, dial, movement tooling costs but it's not doing them much good in retailing a $5,350 watch that is then discounted. Omega has a valuable franchise in the Speedmaster and they want to bring it upscale. They have the larger 44.25mm case with the automatic movement but this is not the moonwatch. So look out for a permanent upward push for the classic Speedmaster. The upgraded movement will allow them to raise the price to the $7,000 to $7,500 mark, at least. Omega has already telegraphed this in the 50th Anniversary edition...new bracelet, use of sapphire crystals, they want to raise the bar for the Speedmaster. They want to look forward and not backward, and the future means the long era of cheap Speedmasters is coming to an end. Just my opinion, of course.

Waitlist usually means all spots are claimed that are allocated so you have to wait for someone to change their mind. So all 100 are currently taken by other customers unless they give up a spot and then someone off the waitlist gets in.

That's at least how the terminology works for medical school when an applicant gets waitlisted (with priority order). They have to hope someone with an actual spot (allocation) changes their mind and wants something else (a different school) before the final decision date.

Please correct me if I'm wrong in that Singapore situation.

Oh, ok, I guess I misunderstood your post. I thought you meant 100 pieces were going to be sold in Singapore and only 10 of those were already reserved.
So all 100 are sold and 10 people are on a waitlist. Got it!

Just talked to the Houston OB, they said that they sold out their allocation of the Apollo 11 50th, approx. 30 SS with 100% deposit customers. Some customers have changed their mind, and they have a waitlist.

New Delhi OB apparently has no such list. Manager confirmed only that the enquiry is there and they have been allotted not many pieces. I'm sure you can walk in and take it in July when it's supposed to be delivered.

I agree with you on the relative value proposal. The FOIS for many people, including some speedmaster afficionados, offers much better value. And for many it has better proportions. That being said, I see the 50th anniversary being sold out relatively quickly. The price tag may be high for a speedmaster but compared to many other watches on the market (including those ugly shiny Rolex subs, the Blancpain's barakuda at 14.5 K€...), it is still a relatively attractive pricing (please note the "relatively" before shouting at me).
I don’t really see how one may compare a Speedmaster with a Sub. Have nothing to do with each other. If you are to, then you have to make a comparison with Daytona.

My AD told me that it was forbidden from Omega to give discounts. They could loose their licence. So I am looking forward what will happen on the grey market
Go and find another AD, cause this one misleads you to say at least.

What’s the line for the Chrono24 over/under?
Over for Jul-Dec 2019,
Over for 2028 and beyond (similar to 40th),
In between those 2 periods, I'll take whatever you say ...

I reserved mine since the end of March not really knowing what the watch would look like. I really like it and I am excited to get it. I Think 6969 pieces for the world was a good number. That way more people will enjoy it.
