6538 doesn't sell at auction - why?

I’m going to go with a very unattractive dial and hand set in person, against a way to ambitious reserve.

That watch is not going to be attractive outside of its catalog glamour shots.

Didn't sell because that's how auctions work. The market determines the value, not the seller or auction house. With no reserve, this watch sells every time.

Helpful, thanks.

I admittedly personally like beat to shit watches but I'm in the minority.

There is patina, and there is uneven water damage... in hand this watch would not be pleasing.

They might have had a better shot if it was the actual one actually worn by Sean Connery, but its not a looker

It’s a nice honest looking worn watch. I think that with a higher price point many collectors may be wanting something in better condition.

To me, it’s got an incredible look as well and agree with others above that without a reserve this watch sells well.

It happens a lot recently at sotheby's and christie's. They putted crazy reserve on watches, they even started 1601 at $2500 ???
