I have the Speedmaster and love the case to death. How could they produce such a horrible, over-modern bracelet and clasp after having done such a great job on the rest???

Agree! And have you tried to change the bracelet for one of the straps? I tried but have failed so far- my impression is that removing the springbars without damaging the case is almost impossible. Much different from the Speedy Pro, where removing the springbars is as easy as it can get. Anyone having the same difficulties, or am I just stupid?

I agree it is not easy. You need to keep pressing down on the top of the end link with your thumb as you release both spring bar ends, not enough pressure and at least one pops back in. Nowhere near as easy as a Moonwatch........

Thanks Stevedssd- I will try it the way you described; very helpful!

It is a miracle to me that in a world of so many highly expensive watch brands, there is only one who achieves at making proper bracelets — Rolex; unfortunately, not a single watch in their lineup appeals to me. Omega web researcher, if you read this: tell your R&D people they shall concentrate on bracelet and clasp jobs for the next couple of years!!!

On the contrary, I see nothing wrong on the clasp and the bracelet. I think Omega did right on this reissue.

I think bracelet is good, not perfect but good. the clasp, I understand when some people say it's big, but it doesn't bother me at all. It doesn't feel uncomfortable. I look at it, yeah it seems a little too wide mainly because the bracelet doesn't taper to smaller width. But when I look at the clasp, the first thing I notice is the Omega logo on it, and the logo they got absolutely right.

Totally agree. The clasp is not quite proportionate to the bracelet imho.

So to summarize the findings (just for fun):
Bracelet:
Pros: Nice machining (satinized and polished parts), solid, uses screws;
Cons: None (looks are matter of taste and therefore neutral)
Clasp:
Pros: Nice machining, well done from the outside, design matches that of the watch, good and welcome micro adjust
Cons: rather thick, and sharp edges on the inside

Doing a bit of traveling this week and stopped by the local AD for a look. They had both the 60th Speedmaster and Railmaster in stock. I am sorely tempted by the Speedmaster, even the Railmaster. They are quite beautiful in person. Up until today, I'd only seen pictures.

I am quite surprised that these watches have not been sold out yet. While one could easily find reasons for this (too many LEs, too many new releases at Omega and elsewhere, too broad edition - c.4,000 of each rail, sea and speedmasters including the sets...), I am still surprised, at least for the speedmaster and the seamaster. They are, at least for me, the watches I have always dreamt about : beautiful and iconic designs, perfect size, easy to wear everywhere as tool watches (at least for the seamaster) and affordable compared to their vintage twins. Now I just hope Rolex will someday re-release the 5508 and I'll be 100% satisfied! When it comes the railmaster, I was a bit skeptical until I wore it. It is fantastic as well : simple and elegant case, a superb dial that goes from brown under electric light to deep black or grey. Just for the record, I own the 3 in separate sets (I did not like to writing on the dial).

Hahaha I won't even try! I honestly thought it would be the same for the speedmaster 60th anniversary...

When I first saw the Speedmaster sitting there in the case, my first thought was to jump on it. I decided to wait and check the forums for some indication of the current market value. There are watches for sale, and some a bit less than "sticker." It gave me enough pause to wait awhile and if I still have the urge, I'll get one on the secondary market.

I agree; too many LE's and 4000 copies is really not all that limited.

Thanks for your post,

Bob

Yes. 3,557 + 557 sets = 4,114
You are grouping the box sets with the individual pieces. They are not the same. Each watch in the box set is numbered with identical limited edition numbers on the watch face unlike the others. Omega clearly makes that distinction.

I do not understand the need to constantly try to devalue these watches by anyone.

Nobody is trying to devalue any watch here. If you read me correctly, I own the 3 60th anniversary watches and while I don't care much where these watches trade on the second hand market, I wouldn't be less happy, if they were selling higher than the price I paid for. To come back to your comment, the unique difference between the sets and the rest of the edition is the mark up on the dial and I believe a reference on the back. I do not find this particularly relevant to exclude the sets from the counting. Have a good day my friend and easy on any accusation please.

Out of interest which Country were you in when you saw the Speedmaster in the AD's window. I managed to source a Seamaster 60th from a UK AD last month and Railmasters are reasonable available but Speedmaster 60th's are now usually only available from Grey's😀
