56 Constellation Opinion

Good day all - I’m quickly becoming an omega fan boy after purchasing a Moonwatch speedy.

I recently have become a bit obsessed with finding a 56 constellation pie pan - it’s the birth year of my father and thought it a great way to honor.

I’m not a collector and want to make sure I’m not over spending. My understanding is the arrowhead markers make this relatively rare in this condition.

What do you think is fair value for a 56 2852-7-c in shown condition.

any red flags or negatives to note? Appreciate you guys

Agreed. Dial has some light patina and the medallion shows a bit of polishing, but very nice overall. It just comes down to the asking price and whether the movement needs servicing.

If you indicate the asking price, you will get more feedback about valuation.

Asking price is $5,500 USD - Seems a bit high based on what I've seen but it is unique from what I've seen. Original BOR, minimal polishing, original box even (or least period accurate).

WAY, WAY, WAY TOO HIGH!!! $2,000 is more in the ballpark. It's a very slow market right now.

That seems to be at least 3x the value, especially given the condition of the dial.

Gulp!

maybe, and just maybe, for a black dial version and even then, a touch high.

But baby needs new shoes, and boat payment due…..

Doesn't the SWISS MADE look a bit odd; font too thick? Or is it just the photo?

Omega Enthusiast? He has nice watches but pretty much always priced at 2-3x value. Seems he still moves them, though.. so good for him.

He does sell authentic fully serviced examples in very good to excellent condition, but the prices are very, very high.

Appreciate you guys. You nailed the seller. Great pieces but so expensive. Feels safe for a vintage novice like me but definitely a bit out of budget for me… I think lol

If you're willing to be patient, and also spend some time lurking/reading/learning, the sales forums here have some nice example pop up. Also keep an eye on the smaller auction houses like Jones and Horan. Their descriptions and pictures err on the side of conservatively honest.

This is definitey it. There are hardly any professional dealers around that are more trustworthy I'd say, but you will pay for that security.

If you are willing to pay that much, maybe you should wait for one with a cleaner dial. The OP dial isn't terrible, but the degradation is definitely noticeable.

I just noticed that he has also started selling vintage Rolex watches also, and the asking prices are even more ridiculous, if you can believe it.

Remember when people used to buy watches for silly prices from Hodinkee, and then they would tire of them and try to sell them for the same price by advertising that the watch was purchased from Hodinkee.

More like 3000$ overprice.
