3D Printed Tool Organizers

Hi all. I've been slowly building my watch tool collection over the past year or so, and it was time to get them out of that mess of a drawer and into some custom organizers. Went for a 35x35mm grid, so each dimension is a multiplier and they can fit tightly against each other. I may explore in the future stuff like gridfinity, depending on how it grows and evolves. For now I'm mostly exploring a good way to have the panels interlock on any side (without magnets!), so that I have the flexibility of a panel for each tool, but also group them into bigger sets.

Of course, ideas are more than welcome. If someone, for whatever reason, needs STL files, I can happily provide them.

@Pahawi that's cool! How are the organizers holding up long term? Uv exposure, humidity, whatnot.

I've been doing some non watch related organizers too. Mostly for the tools I use often.

Thanks. I can't see why they shouldn't hold up for decades.... 馃榾

I love this. i have a rotating screw driver holder that i use, but man, I could easily use some of these for other parts. Would you mind sharing the STL? I'd be happy to donate to the cause and ease the burden of design.

@UNLucky I'm in the process of redesigning the organizers. Will share photos and the STL files either today or tomorrow.

Redesigned the organizers to be Gridfinity compatible. I thought I wouldn't need to, but after using them for a while and having them move around when picked up, I changed my mind. It adds material, but it's a better system overall. To sum up the changes:

  • Gridfinity compatible: 42x42mm with a height that's a multiple of 7mm.
  • Holes at the bottom for 8mm silicone bumpers. These play no role in the grid, but are useful when moving the boxes to a work area.
  • Channels around the perimeter both for aesthetics and for added grip.

Since I can't upload STL files here directly, I'll try to upload them in MakerWorld so anyone that wants them, can easily download them. In the meantime, you can drop me a PM with your email, and I'll zip them to you. The organizers for the few tools I (currently) have:

Bergeon 8008 rubber ball
2x2x4. A loose fit so it can be picked up without taking the box with you.

Bergeon 4657 dust blower
2x2x5. Also a loose fit as it tends to stick.

Bergeon 4266 crystal lift
2x2x4. The lift tool with the standard plate (4266-E). I may redesign if I acquire another plate.

Horotec MSA07 case back opener
2x3x6. Holds 9 pairs of pins.

Bergeon 5395-75N cushion
2x1x4

Silly me, it appears I can upload zip files. Attached is a zip with the STL files of the 5 boxes mentioned in the post above and an additional one I have for hand presses and levers. The latter are non-brand, specific sized ones that will probably not be that useful to most people.

I was wondering what formats are popular with 3D printers these days. I stopped at IGS. I had the opportunity to work on transfer techniques back in the day when 3D CAD was pretty new and CAM wasn't even in the picture (or at least implemented very well). Anyone remember APT?

@GuiltyGear Thank you for sharing these! They work great. I will also take some time to refine a couple of things I've done (and add gridfinity bottoms) and load them up.

And for the Bergeon 30081-S rotating screwdriver holder with 2x2 gridfinity base
Nice stuff. I have a 30081 in the mail so will be needing it shortly.

Not watch related, but I鈥檝e become addicted to 3D printed inserts for Milwaukee Pack-Out units. Each of my Milwaukee tools now has a dedicated Pack-Out. Hanging a flat screen in my son鈥檚 apartment? Grab the drill and assembly tool Pack-Outs. Cutting door trim for flooring? Grab the multi tool Pack-Out.

I could design my own, but these are cheap enough that I just buy the STLs: https://jonahpope.gumroad.com/

Yes Please! I'll take one! I've always wondered how difficult these models are to customize... I use an AirPod box with rice as ballast and holes drilled into the lid for tools. Not anywhere in the same universe as this.... I find the deeper into this bottomless addiction the more things I have on my desk... so - I'm very intrigued!
