Tape can come undone. Wouldn't you get a better seal by coating it with superglue?

If you are using glue, Elmers is the only option, at least from what I have read in the past....

Actually, most times I don't even need the tape if I cut the holes the right size. It's raining today so let me take you through the steps.....

First, you want to pull a strip of Saran wrap off that's wide enough to cover the watch, this being a 1966 pink Gold Eterna caliber 1466U.

Next, carefully roll the watch in the cellophane so it's covered evenly.

Then comes the plastic bag, preferably a snack size since sandwich or quart are too large.

After patiently cutting the hole for each end of the strap, insert the watch into the bag. Be warned that the keepers and buckle can be a hassle - just take your time.

Voila!

You can use your iPhone to tell you the time, although you can make out that it's 9:42 in the above picture. It all depends on how neatly you wrap the watch in cellophane and stuff the watch in the plastic bag. Less wrinkles = more legibility. 馃憤

Quite efficient! ...and I thought I was the only one using cellophane and ziploc...

My technique varies slightly, as I don't like the 'zip' portion, so I just cut that part off, and superglue the edges...

Works great... looks better!

Holy smokes you were serious!

Serious watches require serious measures. Losing a plated Caravelle or Benrus to Mother Nature is mildly upsetting. Losing a near mint IWC, AP, Eterna, or Omega to the weather is a life altering event.

Saw that on TZ years ago. Wasn't there some type of problem with water though?

At some point you have to ask yourself--wouldn't it just make more sense to move to Arizona or Nevada?

Yes that goes back a ways for sure. I just tried to do a quick Google search to find it, and saw references to it being a post made back in 2005 originally - my how time flies! I could not find the thread itself - being banned from there doesn't help in finding it - yes it's a badge I wear with pride!

I remember it well and it was a classic thread!

I didn't know you were in the TZ Persona Non Grata Club too. 馃憤

And dry roast? NO WAY! Besides, I'd miss the mosquitos.

This will also prevent the helium from escaping! 馃憤

I can't believe you guys are still using plastic bags. That was promoted back in '82 by Chuck Maddox. Worked pretty well but not always reliable, and not foolproof.
For several years I've used the Pelican "Watch Mate" far more reliable and classy. Fellow WIS's recognize you more easily now too. 馃憤
Seals down to 300 meters.

Looks like you need to order a bigger size or it shrunk in the rain. 馃う

Hong Kong should invest in a large air-conditioner to keep the city cool and control humidity. Then nobody would need to walk around with silly plastic around their wrists.

@ulackfocus @Archer The original TZ glue thread: http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=msg&th=423656&rid=7692#msg_1118613

I was just getting into watches when this thread happened, and reading it scared me away for a good 2-3 years.

Thanks! Reading that again brings back some memories for sure. This was a pretty legendary thread at the time, and for several years after.

Well, if he graduated from architecture school, I hope he hasn't specified Elmers glue as a construction material!! 馃槈

What are you talking about Al? A little Elmer's glue makes the knock down Ikea furniture last 3 or 4 times longer than without, so therefore it should hold skyscrapers together during earthquakes.
