Dear All, apologies if this has been asked before, I could not find a corresponding entry. I am a big Omega fan and own several of their watches. I have just purchased a 2000 moonwatch which appears to have a defect to do with the chronometer but keeps time flawlessly otherwise.
When pressing the 2 o’clock pusher the chrono starts as it should. When I press it again to stop, it sets itself back to the 12 o’clock position.
Any thoughts before I bring he to the AD? A minor service is due anyway but it would be good to have some idea whether this is a major or minor issue. Much obliged for any pointers!

It’s time for a full service. The stem bolt for the hammers is broken or bent. When the chrono is stopped, the hook portion of the hammer arm catches on the stem bolt. When the reset is pressed, the stem bolt is moved out of the way, unhooking it from the hammer and which allows the hammer to move under spring force to the reset position. It is a part I replace on almost 100% of 861/1861/etc movements during a service.

Thank you very much @MDubs can you quantify what that will set me back approximately? It’s important as I just bought this piece and want to share this with the seller. Service is due anyway, just a ballpark figure would be good.

As noted, fairly common problem. Here is a video showing the normal condition with the stem bolt for hammer in p[lace, and then what you have now:

Cost will be whatever a full service is from whoever you use to service it. I think Omega charges $750 for a full service in the US.
