It's been so long since NTTD, and years of speculation over who's next, that I no longer care who. It'll be an Amazon prime series anyway probably.
They have 100% committed to a full theatrical release. They've signed Denis Villeneuve to direct and Steven Wright to write the screenplay. Amazon is treating this like a tentpole prestige movie, which they should. They are not treating it like slop to throw into the streaming pig sty.

It doesn't guarantee it will be good--but it does show they are treating the franchise with the respect it deserves. Which is not something I can say about Broccoli and Wilson with the NTTD abomination.

Ha NTTD wasn’t an abomination at all.
Delay was down to the pandemic

Broccoli and co were hit and miss on their movies. Just so happens that NTTD was in the not very good pile.

I'm sure this has been discussed elsewhere on the internet until missiles rain down from the sky, but the problem (*as I see it) with NTTD and the Craig era in general is Spectre. That's not fair to Spectre though, it did just fine being awful completely on its own, so perhaps NTTD's problem is that someone thought Spectre was a good idea in the first place and wanted to continue those ideas into NTTD the way they did.

But,

I have no idea just how involved Broccoli and Wilson were with the writing of that film, but I have to think a lot of mistakes came together all at once. AFAIAA, weren't B&W involved since Goldeneye? Brosnan has two good movies, one that's ok, and then one that started off great and then went completely off the rails plot wise (DAD, imnsho).

Spectre was terrible. Everyone likes to hate on QoS as being bad but that movie is actually re-watchable compared to Spectre.

This how I rank DC's Bond movies
Good- Skyfall and CR
Okay- QoS
Bad- NTTD
Garbage- Spectre

IMO, and I understand I'm in the minority with this opinion because most people like Skyfall, but Casino Royale was the only truly good Bond movie Craig got. Skyfall looked really great aesthetically, but I thought the plot was really contrived and had a lot of dumb moments, and the Home Alone third act was absolute rubbish.

QoS, Skyfall and NTTD are all in the Okay tier for me. They're passable but they all have problems to varying degrees.

Spectre is definitely in the garbage tier, oof. Although, the intro and the whole train sequence were both really good in my opinion. Craig's movies generally had quite good intro sequences across the board.

Never realized how much Spectre was hated above NTTD. IMHO the first three Craig movies are the great ones for me. I’ll never forget the hype for QoS, it’s still a great spy movie all things considered.

You can tell when Barbara and Michael started to drift apart because they started to spread each movie from a year, four years to five years and now the longest span in all 66 years of bond history, I still remember when NTTD was supposed to release in April of 2020 but got delayed because the shut down happened right after.

Skyfall

Is a huge part of the "nostalgia makes good film" movement. All things considered it did it well but that particular feeling has become overused.

I do agree, that today with the advantage of hindsight, CR and QoS as a sort of single wrapped up storyline work really well. Skyfall is definitely and shoulders above Spectre and NTTD though

I'll give you a quarter for each plot point that you can argue makes sense and another quarter for each of these that you can make coherent within the existing story

I liked Spectre. It has flaws for certain but I still enjoy watching it. I would have preferred Spectre to be the final Craig film.

Those two agreed to Craig's demand that Bond be killed in return for him coming back for movie #5. Someone who respected the franchise would have said no. That should have been a non-negotiable.

NTTD is rated my #25 of 25 Bond movies. I watched it in the theater. Then I watched it again when it was released on physical media to see if my opinion would change. It didn't. I will never watch it again even though I own it.

The DC movies were just ok for me. But they aren't rewatchable like the earlier ones.

I enjoyed them all and felt CR needed to be made as the character was falling behind Bourne ect.

Felt all DC films has a good arc & always enjoy Waltz on screen.

Compared to all the Bond films before, the only other ones I’d happily watch, are Goldeneye, Russia with Love, Goldfinger and Daltons first. The rest are too cheesy, and haven’t aged well.

Books on the other hand much better. Moonraker very good and completely different from film.

Each to their own, and I’m not going to change your opinion. Usually it comes down to what Bond you grew up watching. But I thoroughly enjoyed NTTD throwbacks

I grew up on Roger Moore, and TNT Bond marathons. Liked Dalton and Brosnan too. After those the newer ones seemed too serious and dark. I do own all 25 though, plus NSNA. Connery is Bond though, and Lazenby got short shrift, OHMSS is one of my favorites.

I recommend FRWL, GoldenEye, and Casino Royale to anyone who is considering getting into Bond. If you don't like those three you don't like Bond and shouldn't waste your time watching anything else.

It breaks my heart that they busted up the novel Moonraker for parts. It's my favorite novel.

While I'm not crazy about Amazon owning the Bond franchise, one thing I hope they will do someday is to make a period accurate movie version of Moonraker, even if it's only done for streaming. Other than the missile launch and Bond's escape most of the movie would not need to be special effects heavy (translation -- not super expensive to make).

Well, at least you gave it a second chance. I have a question for you though, if Bond hadn't died at the end, would it still have been worse than Spectre?

True for me. Brosnan was and still is my favourite Bond. He got dealt a bad hand with the writing, but his portrayal of the character is top notch. I wish he had gotten more GoldenEye level material, I think he would have been more highly regarded in most people's lists.

Brosnan and Connery are top shelf for me, followed by Dalton and Craig who do a great job but are just playing a bit of a different Bond, noting Dalton's is pretty book accurate to be fair. I was never a fan of the Moore era, and I actually don't remember Lazenby and should probably rewatch his at some point.
