After having bought 6 Breitlings and 5 Omegas over the years, I purchased my first Rolex today. For many years I’ve avoided them perhaps because of my perception of the brand. I have always thought how simple the Submariner looked I decided to put an order in at my AD (my first watch without a chronograph).

The AD said of course they are short of everything (empty cabinets like everywhere else). However the sales rep told me it wouldn’t take too long.

Today three weeks to the day I got the call. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve bought most of those other watches there or as the sales rep (whom I’ve bought everything from) said they are erasing the backlog from the factory.

    it is kinda nice!

I really love the elegance of the submariner. Purchased Air King instead with Milgauss next on my list. But you can never go wrong with a sub. Congrats on your first Rolex! I find the brand to be more than marketing, it has a certain indescribable feeling when you have it on your wrist, whether people know you’re wearing one or not.

I agree - it does look good on your wrist.
I have had a love/hate relationship with Submariners for years (although I wish now I had bought one twenty years ago during a 'love' phase, and kept it). I think the latest iteration actually looks better than any of the earlier versions, even though the differences are small.
    Well done, and enjoy!

Well for some reason I felt I had to have a relationship with it however it turns out. I guess it’s like popping the cherry!

Now you have done it! Every time I look at a Submariner from now on I will be thinking about popping the cherry.......

Is the bezel scratched to the left of the PIP? or is hopefully just a bit of dirt.

Hopefully just a bit of tape adhesive, or a hair, that will wipe off.

I've found with mine that the ceramic bezel is very shiny, and even a tiny water droplet or something similar will look like a stain of some kind under the light. A quick wipe with a microfiber cloth will usually remove it right away.

Fantastic addition to your collection! I like that you got the no-date version - the original and a bit different.

Thanks. The cloth took it off. I didn’t want the date because I’m not fond of the cyclops. I know people blow both ways on that but personally I think it would make me feel old

Quick question to you Rolex guys. I know it’s automatic but I dont hear the rotor. Is it that quiet? Bi directional winding?

Bi-directional winding. I haven’t heard that these later calibers have changed to a ball bearing rotor, so I’ll assume the arrangement is still a rotor post running in two jewelled bearings. This arrangement is much quieter that a ball bearing rotor as with Eta automatic wind movements. The reversers operate noiselessly. If your Breitlings have Eta based movements, they’ll sound like your Omegas. However, if your hearing is sensitive enough to hear an Eta rotor turning on its ball bearing, you have very good hearing. I am unable to hear them.

I appreciate that. Yes all the other rotors are noticeable, 7750, B01, 9900. Each make noise but as you state they all are unique. Especially the 7750 ;)
