During late night internet browsing and after a few glasses of wine, this seamaster has caught my eye (especially the cross hair dial with patina), so I did a spontaneous purchase without any research on it. Vintage Omega world is a quite new to me... It should be 2577-8 (it is written on the caseback) with cal 351 bumper (well yes, this is inside). Serial is 12 mio. I like to know your opinions on the dial and hands mainly. The dial seems to be original (not redial, but is it correct to the watch?). Also, I haven't seen this combination of hands (seamaster calendar maybe?). What do you think? Many thanks. I made a few quick photos (nor really good ones, bacause of poor light conditions).

Looks OK to me. Serial dates to around 1951. It may have had some dial lume work (not uncommon) but otherwise looks ok for a 2577 IMO.

Looks nice 👍 I like the patina and those nail head markers at 12, 3, 6 and 9.

Nice fat-lug reference, seems in pretty good shape. The dial is correct, the patina is a matter of personal preference. I expect it will look better than your poor (agree with you there) photographs show.
👍

Sorry for the bad photos... I’ll make better ones during day light. (Please excuse my English as well, I am not from English speaking country 😀)

Is it correct that the hour hand has triangle lumi area and minute hand just line? I have usually seen that both hands have lines or triangles. The combination of triangle and line I have seen on seamaster calendar models.

And also, is the length of minute hand correct? The inner circle on the dial is just for second hand? On some models I have seen that the minute hand was just as long as the circle on the dial.

(But this is just based on quick research observation made after purchase. I have no deep knowledge...) Thanks

Now you mention it, the minute hand is a title odd, I too would have expected the length to be that of the track, it does look too long so may have been changed.

That might explain the inconsistency in the aging of the lume on the hands vs. the lume on the dial. That wouldn’t bother me per se, but the minute hand does look too long, so who knows. Dial certainly looks all original!

Hi @Zephyr550 . Congratulations on your purchase! You did well, I think. It looks like a really nice watch.

You have a good eye. I also think the minute hand is a bit too long, but there are even longer hands.

Here is my own as an example. This is however no 2577, but a 2846 (in this case from the beginning of 1958):

It is for me honestly not 100% sure that the hands were replaced. I think there is a very good chance they were, but even if so, I still enjoy it 😀.

In terms of length, the hands should in fact not overlap the innerdial, if there is one.

However, there are exceptions to this rule. References like 2791 and 2759 (manual wind movements, not bumperautomatics) always show longer minute hands. Midsize Seamasters too have longer hands. (Here one example of the latter shared by @ConElPueblo ).

In regards to your question about the hour hand being a triangle and the minute hand being a dash, it is normal and correct. Dashes on both hour and minute hand are also correct. It happens also with some variations of references like the later 2846 but with other references too, it is absolutely normal.

Enjoy your watch, wear it in good health, and if you are planning to wear it daily, it would be a good idea to have it serviced.

I should probably clarify that while I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it is correct, most things point to the longer hands on my mid-size are wrong. Just like @Rudi99, I don't mind them 😀

Nice watch. Wait with celebrating until you have had a watchmaker look at the movement. The most of these bumpers are completely worn out and good parts are hard to get. Most balaces are due to metal fatigue not delivering anymore. Anyhow good to have a good maintenance service to prevent a total breakdown.

Will you make some good pictures in daylight?
If the pictures on line were bad you probably had a good deal too. Minute hand being a bit too long wouldn’t bother me even if it’s not 100% correct.
