    hey gang,

http://m.ebay.ca/itm/Omega-Oversize...66-30t2-265-267-283-284-285-286-/182123041042Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

    2505-10.JPG

nice looking, but I don't know if the dial matches the case, if the dial is original, and if the case is over polished - it looks very shiny!

I was hoping to get some feedback on things to look for and there doesn't seem to be a great deal of info on these. I can't seem to find ref 2505 at all in the vintage database, and Google images are a mixed bag.

as always, I appreciate your time!

The style of the dial does match the style of dials I have seen on this ref, but I can't tell from the images if it is a redial. The hands are also a fit with what I have seen on other 2505. I think I have a picture somewhere of a similar dial. I'll look for it later tonight.

    thanks @Joe K. !

I thought the lettering of Omega looked a bit suspect, but it looks similar to other examples I've been able to find. I just don't know if I'm trying to make a match, or if it's legit.

any corroborative evidence would be helpful!

I mostly reserve opinion as I definitely don't know enough and even opinions can be unnecessary at times but here are questions that I asked myself:
    1. The buckle does not seem like a rare 1950's version, it seems like a modern MG variant https://omegaforums.net/threads/about-omega-buckles.37347/ It may not mean much but the seller does state it as rare original 50's (if Google translated correctly). Gets me questioning.
    2. The case size seems too big. I thought these were 37.5mm. Again could be using a ruler to measure or I could be wrong about them being only 37.5mm. I can't see how it got bigger if its been polished...:whistling:
    3. It has been overhauled as stated and parts may have been replaced and that may be why it does not state the calibre number on the movement. The serial dates it to '44 - '47. Which to me seems early for a 266... Could actually be pre 266. So to me the movement is not a cal. 266 as stated. Jewel count also incorrect as it should be 17 jewels. Pretty sure its a 30T2PC due to the shock protection present. Misinformation from the seller or simply trying to match the reference to the movement.
    4. Dial does not look bad but here I cannot add value. I'll have a look in AJTT (I have one you know) tonight and see if there is something. Until then check this out http://naligazone.com/index.php/data-watch/omega/13-watch/omega/166

    Hope this helps

very helpful! after reading your post, I agree.. quite a few questions, especially about the movement. more to learn for me.

here's the Google translation of the description:

"For sale beautiful omega ref 2505 with cal. 266 newly overhauled with 6 months warranty
Total steel case in excellent condition, diameter 38.6 mmexcluding crown well.
    Beautiful original dial never reprinted matte white, with silver-colored Arabic numerals and wonderful set of leafy siler handswith Secondina cornflower blue (very slight and insignificantsegnetti on the dial);
    Mechanics cal.266 reviewed by a few days, brilliant and perfect working order, with six months warranty;
perfect glass, original crown, strap anonymous as new, in brownleather with contrast stitching which recall the color of the dial, with very rare buckle 50s, the original logo.
    huge and extraordinarily beautiful watch!"

You would need to ask the width between the lugs. Omega did make some 39 and 40 mm models, but based on the 39 mm I had and one recently listed (didn't sell) had a 19 mm lug width.

This is the one I was watching. Hoping that maybe relisted with a lower price (bad redial and some parts with rust on them), but never relisted.

Seller mentioned 19 mm between the lugs. Lugs also thinner. Can't recall what mine had. Case in auction your looking at has lugs similar to the 37.5 mm sized cases

    Guys,

I am a bit annoyed by the lot of speculations recently on this forum.

I would appreciate if you stuck to the facts - and if you don´t know it is better to...

Ref. 2505 is definitely larger than 37,5 mm

Due to the case construction and how the lugs "flow" into the case body it is not easy to take precise measurement even when using a caliper.

I will demonstrate it in the pictures below:

    P1090508.JPG

This is the diameter taken with the caliper in a position as narrow as possible to the winding crown - you can see it is 38.24 mm - quite a bit more than 37,5

    P1090509.JPG

If you slide the caliper a tiny bit to the position 4:00 to 10:00 it shows already 38.57 mm - so quite near to the diameter of the 38,60 mm provided by the seller´s item description!
And let us assume the seller did not use a precision digital caliper (or is not quite familiar how to read an analog caliper) the measurement is quite precise, don´t you think? Maybe he has only used a ruler - who knows...

    Thanks @mac_omega!

any thoughts on whether the dial is appropriate for a 2505-10? the case in the example you posted looks similar to the one in my OP, so wondering if the edges on this case style are expected to be a little rounded?

Edit: also, any concern about the movement not being stamped with 266? should it be a different caliber?

The old Omega DB listed the size as 37.5mm, may be incorrect or different variant though.

The OP's movement is definitely not a 265 or 266, so it's wrong (as in franken) for the watch.

    awesome! thanks TNT!

I think the 2505 series is a bit older, if I'm not mistaken, so would you expect a 2xx or a 30T2 in a 2505 case?

Yes, the case looks a bit rounded, I think this is OK

The vintage data base is often incomplete on the movements, but I can not confirm if a cal. 260 (30 T2 PC) would be acceptable as I do not have the information... same for the dial... there have been used so many different dials - so many different should be legit.
And who cares? Even Omega archive can´t tell you if the dial was delivered this way or not. They mostly do not have any info on the dial
I think the dial matches the era - this would be sufficient for me

My watch has a cal. 266 in the 14.xx mio range - but mine is a 2505 -28 so much later...

    hope this helps a little

    awesome. thank you mac_omega!

can you tell from the pics if the dial is redone? I think not, but I haven't seen many with applied numbers, they're mostly painted.

...and finally, on price. is €1200 way out to lunch?

    Thanks for the info @mac_omega
I really respect your opinion as I always take note of your comments. Just to note though, I most definitely did not speculate on the size. What I may have done is quote the incorrect information. I myself do not appreciate speculation and I try and avoid it at all cost, hence my low post count despite being on here for a while.

    I based it on this:
    1. Checked Omega vintage database https://www.omegawatches.com/planet...ache=1&cHash=79ec1060b80f1cad1b4e20340172ee5a
    No size given.
    2. Checked this out http://naligazone.com/index.php/data-watch/omega/13-watch/omega/166
    Size given as 37.5mm
    3. Post link and information to post requesting information.

I did however carry out your exercise on my 135.007 which seems to check out with the size given in the link from the same website.
    http://naligazone.com/index.php/data-watch/omega/13-watch/omega/247
    35mm
    IMG_2601.JPG

I also just checked out AJTT and while I did not find a 2505 in my quick check I have found a 30mm movement with a large case. The book also states 37.5mm for it (CK 2186).

No speculation from my side. Just so you know. I however do not dispute your information as you obviously own a watch like this and again I respect your posts and information.

Incorrect was too strong a word, since the 2505 probably had the 30T2 in earlier iteration. But there are 2505-2 and 2505-4 that already have the 265, so an early 30T2 on a 2505-10 seems a bit suspicious.

Have you been on watch forums before? (Note this is a rhetorical question...)

If people didn't post speculation and incorrect "facts", most watch forums would not have very many posts. :)

BTW a CK2505 is listed in the Omega Extranet at 35 mm. Sometimes even with what should be "good" information, the truth is not clear. I would try not to get too annoyed - trust me it doesn't help resolve the spreading of bad information. :D

    Cheers, Al

are the 30T2 movements marked in any way, or does the 2xx indicate the change from a 30T2 to cal. 2xx?

I gotta find a good reference source to get educated.

The 30T2 should be marked under the balance wheel, while the 260 is next to the crown wheel. There are quite a few variations of the 30T2, but the 260 is supposedly the same as the 30T2 PC AM 15 jewels.
