·Man, I really want one of these. But I already own the GMT version and they seem to similar to have both. But, darn I'd they don't look great.

Afternoon (U.K) all,
Before anyone asks, this isn’t a sneaky ‘it’s for sale thread’ - this is a genuine question.
I've started this thread because it’s a tricky one for me.
I bought my uncles 2254.50 off him around 3-4 years ago. He bought the watch brand new in 2005. So it’s been in my family since day one.
I’m utterly in love with the sword hands and the dial, they really do shout ‘tool watch’. However, fast forward the 3-4 years and I’m lucky enough to have my grail 16570 Explorer 2.
The Explorer is my go to watch and I like that it wears smaller than the 2254.50
I feel it’s a shame to just leave the 2254 tucked away in a box, but also almost too attached to part for the history (my uncle is still alive) . I’m quite a nostalgic person.
it’s probably the most original 2254 around, It even has the payment card receipt with everything else. I know I’ll never get another like it, should I decide to sell it.
What I’m trying to find out is, it is worth keeping tucked away in a box and forget about it for a few years - then maybe it’ll have increased in value to justify servicing it again, and putting it back in the box.
Or should I part ways with it now having had a good journey.
Who’d have thought such difficult decisions existed for what’s seen as ‘just a watch’
Does anyone have any stories they’d like to share, or regrets selling a family heirloom as such.
Hi OmeGez, I understand you so well and would like to tell you my personal story and how I happily solved this dilemma.
Some years ago I quit smoking and decided to put the monthly cigarette money away for a nice timepiece instead. When the time was ripe, I found a gorgeous example of a 50th anniversary GMT in black, from 2008, caliber 1128. I loved that watch! But since my holy grail watch has always been the 16570 EX II black, I kept saving the monthly cigarette money year after year, until I could finally afford a NOS 16570.
After about a year, it was clear to me that I was not going to wear that omega again even though it is such a cool watch. I thought and thought what is the smartest thing to do with it. and then I decided to give it to my brother as a present. As he knew that this was my own reward for not smoking any more, the Omega GMT has double good energy for him: one for beeing from his brother and one for beeing a non smoking reward.
7 years later I am convinced that no money in this world could outbalance the joy I have felt all this years in knowing that that particular watch is in my own brother's wrist plus his own joy getting his own brother's first non smoking Omega!!! Go figure!!! This is true win-win in my books.
The money I would have gotten from selling it would be long gone, and having it unused in the safe did surely not satisfy me.
This is how I solved this dilemma and tell this to you to show a way to achieve this kind of inner happynes that money can¨t buy.
Greetings from Switzerland,
Marcelo.
Awesome that you are keeping the watch.
My 2254.50 was first luxury watch. Bought it new about 11 years ago? Serviced it about 3 months ago. I couldn't imagine parting with it.
My plan is pretty simple.. when the day comes that I finally get to retire, I will own 3-4 watches and my 2254.50 will certainly be one of them. I have a lot of years to decide what the other 3 will be. 😀

Here's an idea. 1st keep it for sure, but store it face down in your watch box or somewhere else you can't see it. Then, when you do pull it out for a special occasion after not having seen it at all for a month or so, it will seem even more fresh and almost new again. Good luck.
I wear mine far too much to keep it stored. I was just trying to help OP with his choice to keep his. 👍

If money are not the must, I wouldn't sell it given the watch is a family heirloom.
225450 value is already outperforming its retail price. Since 2016 the prices are fairly stable between $2.200 - 2.500, If you keep it for a longer I guess you will not loose any money.
This thread is pushing me inexorably towards a 2254.50...
Do it, do it, do it!
