Its going to be interesting to see what the FIA does about that situation where Ocon entered the pits and was met by a wall of cameramen on track

It looks like Formula 1 has again proven that removing classic race tracks and using street courses with procession racing and sprint qualifying has indeed improved the sport.
Yep, and another dull fest in Miami last week - a contender for worst race of the year last year in my book. Clearly bunged on for the money, celebs, marketing.

I hope this year is different.

Yeah that was horrible. Thankfully nothing came of it.

Celebrating on the pit wall is also a breach in safety regulations, so it will also be interesting to see how the FIA handles the RB pit crew violating that with an active pit lane behind them.

🤦

My guess is probably nothing other than a warning. It's kind of a dumb rule TBH. Let them celebrate.

I agree, it is a dumb rule. However it is still a rule. If there weren’t an army of photographers and volunteers on an active track, I could see the FIA only issuing a warning. But since there were already people in a very dangerous situation, I just wonder if the FIA will use this event to really enforce that rule moving forward. Regardless of what happens, the pit lane at the end was just a disaster.

The conversation regarding the pit lane incident is interesting. Too bad the race didn’t provide any other talking points.

Ummm, I think we saw three master-classes in tyre management. Checo, Fernando and Lewis. I still enjoy that sort of thing because I started following F1 when getting the car to the end was an essential skill.

One example: Jim Clark's British GP in 1965, winning a GP by turning your engine off. Read this: https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/...aralleled-brilliance-1965-british-grand-prix/

Agree. It comes across like the FIA have been ignored, and that would set them on a course to make an example.

However, to correct myself, I think the cameramen in the pit lane was an FIA own goal.

I thought the FIA just stated recently they were going to enforce the celebration wall more seriously. I could be wrong, but it's still the FIA too haha.

Indeed, and with modern cars being considerably larger these days there’s little room for overtaking. It’s almost as if the FIA wants the drama of cars ploughing into walls, spinning each other around, etc. 😒.

The replacement of classic race tracks in countries with decades of motor racing pedigree with bland new tracks (that still make overtaking difficult) built by wealthy countries is the most depressing aspect, but it’s all about the money I guess.

Bring back Brands Hatch!

Yes, really not great, in fact, the Sprint was better than the Grand Prix; in previous years Baku had unexpectedly provided some really good racing, but I think the ever-developing aerodynamics and increasing turbulence generated from the same are starting to play a significant role in neutralizing again. Perhaps it might be a good idea to consider using something similar to the Brabham Fan Car concept from Gordon Murray, creating incredible amounts of downforce that doesn't impinge significantly on the car behind.
Using similar technology albeit in a very different format, it will be very interesting to see how his new T50 track car appropriately named after the late great Nikki Lauda, will behave compared to the massively Venturi-tunneled Valkyrie designed by Adrian Newey, as they both have very similar spec naturally aspirated V12 engines developed by Cosworth.

Here are some pictures from yesterday taken from my balcony. The F2 qualifying is going on right now. Those cars are loud.
Amazing, imagine how loud it would have been back in the day when there were naturally aspirated V12s (known in the paddock as the screamers) and V10s, or even the V8s that superseded them.

Ok couldn't resist here's a 'screamer' from 1995
designed by John Barnard

Totally agree, the best thing about the Covid season was the old euro tracks. Everyone loved it. But now it's back to (some) of the new boring bland tracks. Not all - Baku is great and I'd be up for losing boring old track Monaco (sorry, not sorry) but some of the newer tracks are just dull. The season should start in Oz and end in Brazil too. Still can't believe there's no German grand prix. Oh, and bring back the v10s whilst we're at it!

That's what F1 is supposed to sound like! It was even loud on the telly!

Ready for the Miami drama!! Bring it!
Let's hope for a really good race, the only thing about Miami is you don't get much sense that it's in Miami, I'd love to have seen a proper street circuit incorporating the beach somehow, as it just feels like it's in the car park of a football stadium, a bit like the original Las Vegas Grand Prix which was also in a car park...
